Week 2 Thoughts

Posted 09-13-2008 at 04:56 PM by chrisslabaugh
This was supposed to be a game that the Lions could afford to lose. Unfortunately that's not the case this week as the Lions come into the game with a 0-1 record after a huge disappointment at the hands of the Atlanta Falcons.

This week is the home opener for Detroit and the fans are getting restless. The Packers looked very good beating the Vikings in an early division battle 24-19 in a Monday Night Football showdown, and would love to go 2-0 with both wins in their division. This rivalry has gone Green Bay's way seven out of the last eight meetings and it would appear that eight out of nine is almost inevitable.

I see the keys to this game being stopping the run. Detroit has no shot of winning if they give up even half of the rushing yardage they gave up last week (318) One silver lining is that Ryan Grant's hamstring is still gimpy and if the Pack is forced to use Brandon Jackson heavily in this game it favors Detroit.

The other key is getting a running game of our own started. I would look for much more Rudi Johnson in this game. He ran 3 times for 14 yards last week and can be a difference maker if he can carry 10+ times.
