Version 2.19
Welcome to week 14 of the NFL 2008 season, welcome to the most electrifying time in fantasy football. It’s put up or shut up time, it’s win or go home time, it’s postseason time!
Now, I’m sure that at this stage of the game, the last thing you are interested in is some long winded lead up until I hit the real juicy stuff, so, this week, let’s just jump right in.
Last week we saw Brian Westbrook, Donovan McNabb and DeAngelo Williams all account for four touchdowns, and during a week in which every point counted, these performances could have really shook the foundation of your leagues playoff bracket. But the good news is this, if you’re still here, still reading this, still searching for that optimal lineup, odds are you made the cut, you sit towards the top of your league, you are a playoff contender!
This week we will see several matches that can work heavily in your favor, provided you’ve done the research (or at the very least, read mine). The Titans face off against the Browns whom are having an awful year shutting down running lanes, look for Chris Johnson to put up perhaps his best numbers of the season.
Another runningback who will look to have a huge game is Arizona’s Tim Hightower who will be going up against the 30th ranked rushing defense in the league in the St. Louis Rams.
Be sure to give the electrifying Peyton Hillis the starting nod this week as the Broncos see the Chiefs (statistically the second worst rushing defense the league has to offer). Hillis totaled 5 touchdowns in the month of November after being shoved into an Earnest-Graham-Ryan-Grant-2007-esque situation in Denver and will be sure to prove his worth come Sunday.
However, as bad as the Chiefs are against the run is as bad as the Broncos are at preventing the pass. Look for Tyler Thigpen to have yet another outstanding performance as one of the season’s best waiver wire grabs.
Look for Randy Moss to put up big numbers as the Pats take on the Seahawks and expect little this week from the hot T.O. as the Cowboys take on the league’s best defense, the Steelers.
Zach Miller may very well lead the tightend group in fantasy scoring this week as he and the Raiders see the Chargers, a team who has allowed 21 touchdowns thrown against them this season.
We should also see huge numbers out of the Vikings defense/special teams position as the Lions have virtually done nothing worth while this season. Same is true with the defense/special teams of the Colts, a team who will be playing the lackluster Bengals.
With the preceding information, you should have enough weapons in your starting lineup to make your return, not only to the “lineup submission” page on your fantasy site, but also to this blog next week and here, I will give you the ammo to move on to the next round until you get to the championship.
As always, I appreciate your time in reading this; all comments are welcomed below and please feel free to email me at danieljameswest@gmail.com for further fantasy advice.
