The Life of an Ex-Pat Eagles Fan: Take One

Posted 09-13-2007 at 05:50 AM by eaglechick
I can’t quite decide what I want to blog about.

I have to admit it: I’m not an expert.

I love fantasy football. But I only started around five years ago, the first year I quit working 18 hour days. This year I’m playing in four leagues (three at Sports Outlaw and one I commish) as well as a yahoo salary-cap league, the SO money game, and various challenges, pools, survival and pick ‘ems. I know this is small potatoes for many of you, but for me it’s enough. After dealing with two months of drafts and time zone differences over the summer, Mr. EC forbade me from joining any more leagues, and I think he’s right. I waste quite enough time on this “hobby,” as it is.

There are plenty of people at this website who are going to have much better insights about fantasy and football in general than I am. I’m not 100% sure what the Tampa 2 defense is, or how to exploit the Cover 2 (yes, I’ve played Madden a few times on the PC, but I suck at it). I’m also not sure how many yards Daunte Culpepper threw for in 2004, or how many TDs Lamont Jordan had in 2005, although both of those players were on my teams. I do remember that they had good years.

Not that I don’t respect my opinions, but I wouldn’t want to peddle my insights as expertise. To be honest, I’m a dabbler. A passionate dabbler, to be sure, but a dabbler nonetheless. I usually do reasonably well in my leagues, and make it to the playoffs, but I’ve tended to have bad luck in the post-season.

The Eagles? Sure, I’m a huge fan! I bleed green. Every week during the season I have to make sure to do a load of dark wash before Sunday. Gotta have those Birds panties (sorry boys, bikini, not thong) ready. I also have the green socks, the Eagles t-shirt, the jersey, the hat, and (for the playoffs) the temporary tattoos (I made a bet a couple years ago that if the Eagles won the Superbowl that year I would get the bird’s head tattooed on my ass, but as you all know, they didn’t. Mr. EC has also forbidden me from acquiring any more ink, so this is unlikely to happen in the future either). I also make sure to dress the Chicklet in appropriate game-time attire, even if he’s just going to bed (the early game starts at 7pm here).

Thing is, I’m not in Philly, I don’t read the Inquirer, I don’t have much time to listen to the sports shows, and I don’t even watch much Sportscenter! I don’t think I’m the right person for the team correspondent’s job, much as I’d love to use a journalist’s credential to interview McNabb or one of the Brians (I’ll take Westbrook or Dawkins, please!) or even David Akers, for that matter (I call him the Zen Master).

So what should I blog about? Well, I guess I’ll just blog about my life in general. Since football and fantasy tend to be big parts of that life, you may occasionally find some bits interesting. Or not. Let me know if I get boring, and I’ll try to liven things up (no thongs, though. I hate feeling like I’ve got a permanent wedgie).

LMAO, I'm not sure how we went from talking about the Eagles to your underwear but I won't complain.

Anyway, good read and for the record, I think that was a damn good topic to write on. I look forward to the next one.
