Thoughts On the Jaguars Going With Garrard

Wow, what a shocking development on the eve of the NFL regular season. Let me just say, I don't think for a minute that this is a case of going with the best quarterback on the roster.
Last season, there was some tension between Del Rio and Leftwich. Leftwich wanted to be on the field, but he was shut down for an "injury". It seemed at the time there was more to this, and apparently, judging by this development, there was more to the story. Leftwich would barely talk to reporters last season when asked about him not playing, acting as if there was a problem but not wanting to say it. At the same time, the coaching staff, particularly Jack Del Rio, was very supportive of Leftwich publicly.
During this pre-season, Leftwich has been the starter in every way, shape and form. Whatever the problem was last year has gotten worse. There is a problem that runs much deeper than injuries. There is a problem between coach and player here, or management and player. Garrard is half the quarterback that Leftwich is, and clearly does not give the Jaguars the best chance to win.
I have been a backer of Del Rio as a head coach since he originally got the job. I do not know if this is a problem between the head coach and the player, or if it is between management and the player, but somebody has a problem with Leftwich for some reason. The Jacksonville Jaguars did not get better today with this personnel decision.

| | "Garrard is half the quarterback that Leftwich is, and clearly does not give the Jaguars the best chance to win" The irony of this statement isn't how incredibly wrong it is, but that, I would say, this is how the majority of us felt. However, after the year that Garrard and the Jags just had, it is clear that Del Rio knew something that none of us did. |
