Waiver Wire Moves – Week 9
Still looking for some help to push you over the top? Well you have come to the right place. No huge game changes this week in my opinion, but plenty of guys who can step in and help you obtain your goals down the stretch. Here are your week 9 waiver picks.
Quarterbacks
Alex Smith - San Francisco 49ers
A slow start coupled with an injury that sat him out several weeks has led to the availability of Smith in many leagues. While Smith has not done much yet this year, he has a favorable schedule down the stretch and should put up reliable numbers. I’d be comfortable with Smith as a back-up the remainder of the season.
Follow-up to last week - Kellen Clemens – New York Jets
Well I hope you stored him away already, as I previously suggested. I believe Clemons to be the real deal, and should be a solid back-up for your starter in larger leagues down the stretch. He’ll suffer the normal ups and downs of a young QB, but expect Clemens to experience more ups as he gains experience.
Running Backs
Sammy Morris - New England Patriots
No matter how long I play this game I will still be amazed at how many owners quickly forget about ones performance after a couple weeks of being injured. Morris was getting his share of looks prior to his injury. It would appear he may be close to coming back, and when he does I expect him to be productive once again. If your in a league with a panicky owner, Morris may just be sitting around, pick him up and stash him till he is healthy again.
Follow-up to last week - Chris Henry - Tennessee Titans
Henry scored for his 2nd straight week and looks to have secured his spot as the back-up (change of pace back) to LenDale White. The number 2 in Tennessee has proved to be capable of putting up numbers. If Henry would ever get a shot at the full load, he may surprise with a big game. He is worth a roster spot at this point.
Wide Receivers
Kevin Walter - Houston Texans
Despite no one believing he can keep it up, Walter keeps doing just that. Walter has recorded at least 67 receiving yards in each of his last 5 games. At this rate, I find it hard to believe he is still available in as many leagues as he is, but if your league is one of them, grab him now.
David Patten - New Orleans Saints
Patten has quietly recorded 100 yard performances in 2 of the last 3 years. He has stepped up and provided a consistent target for QB Drew Brees as the Saints offense appears to be getting back on track. Patten will provide some depth for your fantasy team at the WR position.
Tight Ends
Jeff King - Carolina Panthers
King exploded with 10 receptions for 82 yards this week against the Colts.King started off like he would become a nice sleeper at TE this season, then he disappeared. Well he should have popped up your radar again this week after that performance. He did have a fumble, but I would not hesitant to stash him away as a back-up TE if you are in need of one.
Follow up to last week - Tony Sheffler - Denver Broncos & Donald Lee - Green Bay Packers
Both of these TE’s appear to be worth the suggested roster spot as both continue to find a role in their perspective offenses.
Defensive Line
Pat Williams - DT - Minnesota Vikings
Williams continues to be a consistent force in the middle of the Vikings DL. If you need some help along your defensive line, Williams could be a stabilizing force.
Philip Daniels - DE - Washington Redskins
Daniels has shown a knack for making big plays the last couple weeks which has made him an option for your DL. If you need some help, you could do worse then Daniels.
Linebackers
Chris Gocong - Philadelphia Eagles
Tackles are the most reliable stats in fantasy and Gocong has shown some consistent tackle numbers as of late. He will provide some decent depth down the stretch.
Defensive Backs
Cameron Worrell - S - Miami Dolphins
Worrell is post some very suprising tackling numbers since entering the starting lineup for the Dolphins. This has made him a consistent fantasy scorer, and someone you should be looking to add to your defensive backfield.
Rashean Mathis - CB - Jacksonville Jaguars
Mathis has always been a tough and smart CB. As of late, he has also been putting up stats that make him a good start at DB. If he’s available, you may want to pick him up.

Looks like I was dead wrong on the Sammy Morris suggestion, word is he's being placed on IR, this makes Kevin Faulk a nice pick up, especially for Maroney owners.Posted 11-02-2007 at 05:54 PM by Miller
