Waiver Wire Moves – Week 8
WOW, can you believe it, the first half of the fantasy season is in the books. This tends to become the time of the year when many fantasy owners tend to pay less and less attention to the waiver wire. However, the truth is the waiver wire is more important late in the year and you can still find players that can help your team down the stretch. So who can help you make that playoff push? Read on and I will tell you who to be looking at.
Quarterbacks:
Kellen Clemens – New York Jets
The natives are getting restless in New York and it is only a matter of time till the Jets brass give in and give the kid a look. I think once he gets a real shot, he will take full advantage. If he’s still lurking around on your waiver wire and you can spare a roster spot, stash him away.
Cleo Lemon - Miami Dolphins
The obvious became reality last week, Trent Green is done for the year. Lemon has shown the knack for being a goal line vulture which is good for fantasy owners. Add to that the loss of Ronnie Brown for the year and I don’t see him loosing those touches. Lemon may not put up exceptional passing numbers, but his rushing numbers will make up his lack of passing at times and would be a decent emergency starter for a week or two against the right match-up.
Running Backs
Jesse Chatman - Miami Dolphins
Ronnie Brown is out for the year which open a large opportunity of Chatman. Chatman should get the majority of the carries for the Dolphins the rest of the season and should become a decent #3 RB on your fantasy team with the potential for more.
Earnest Graham - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Graham disappointed many who took a gamble on him the last few weeks landing him back on the wire in some leagues. Well don’t expect him to stay there for long. Graham had a nice double threat week accounting for over 190 total yards. He also proved he was a legit receiving threat out of the backfield as well catching 13 balls. He’ll have some bumps in the road, but he’s definitely worth a roster spot.
Chris Henry - Tennessee Titans
Something never change, and the fact that I can never figure out the Tennessee running back situation is of those things. With Chris Brown injured the rookie out of Arizona stepped into the secondary running role in the Titans offense behind LenDale White and impressed in limited action. If you are in a deep league, Henry is worth a shot as he may be able to keep Chris Brown off the active roster if he can continue to take advantage of his opportunities.
Wide Receivers
Ike Hilliard - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
The old men in Tampa keep getting it done. Hilliard has averaged 7 receptions a game over the last 4 weeks. He’s providing consistent and reliable numbers and can provide much needed depth as the season wears on.
Chris Henry - Cincinnati Bengals
Forgot about him didn’t you. Well don’t forget anymore, Henry has served 6 games of his 8 game suspension which puts him on track for a return week 10. There are not many nickel backs or safety’s that can cover Henry making him the elite #3 WR in the game when he can stay out of trouble. He’s a TD machine and someone I would stash away at this time before someone else thinks to do the same.
Devin Hester - Chicago Bears
I’ll be honest, I’m still not sure what to make out of him as a receiver. There is no doubt he is lighting in a bottle, the problem is figuring out how to get him the ball on offense. Slowly the Bears are starting to figure it out, and if they ever completely figure it out, watch out, kid is as explosive as they come.
Derek Hagan - Miami Dolphins
Hagan is a good candidate to step up as the most productive WR for Miami the rest of the season. The problem is that even so, it may not be saying a whole lot. However, he’s a good possession WR who will be targeting enough to make him worth a roster spot if you need some help at WR.
Tight Ends
Tony Sheffler - Denver Broncos
Sheffler had a nice week against a very good Steeler defense. Sheffler seems to becoming a part of this offense and should be a nice back-up TE down the stretch.
Donald Lee - Green Bay Packers
Lee has been very consistent this year, but a lack of TD’s allows him to fly under the radar and following his bye week, he will be available in more leagues then he should be. This is a good time to snag him if you need a TE.
Defensive Line
Jovan Haye - DT - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Haye has recorded a sack in 3 of his last 4 games and has become a reliable fantasy force on the DL.
Kelly Gregg - DT - Baltimore Ravens
Gregg is having a great fantasy season, yet is still available in some leagues due to many fantasy owners over looking DT’s.
Robert Geathers - DE - Cincinnati Bengals
Geathers numbers have been disappointing since his exceptional week 1 performance. However, due to injuries at LB for the Bengals Geathers has found himself in the middle of a mid season position switch to OLB. As the Bengals get healthy at LB, look for the Bengals to take advantage of his athleticism and use him at both positions and place him in positions to make plays. He is worth a gamble if you have some roster space.
Linebackers
Bradie James - Dallas Cowboys
James has quietly had a nice season to date. He has been putting up starter numbers over the last three weeks and should be on your roster if he’s available.
Calvin Pace - Arizona Cardinals
Pace has been very forgettable before this week, but had him coming out party this week. Can he keep it up? Well if this was indeed his breakout week, you’ll want to grab him now or it may be too late. Pace is worth a shot if you have some extra room in larger IDP leagues.
Defensive Backs
Aaron Ross - CB - New York Giants
The rookie has been very impressive lately and is finding ways to make plays. His nose for being around the ball makes him a nice fantasy DB. He’s worth a spot at this point.

| | Very nice Miller, I think things like this really help a lot of novice players, and some veterans too. Keep 'em coming. |
