The Sergeant's Office: A Red Pain in my Heart

Posted 11-04-2008 at 03:55 PM by Sgt John
I knew it was coming, but it still hurt. For weeks the Texas Longhorns had stood toe to toe with Top 10 team after Top 10 team. The signs of wear really started to show in the 2nd half of the Oklahoma State game.

A physically worn team, even the Longhorns, are dead meat going into Lubbock and playing a fresh Texas Tech squad. But I didn't just take away gloom and doom.

1. Colt McCoy earned my respect - Spitting blood, playing a horrible game, the kid kept on fighting. McCoy grew into a warrior Saturday night, even if we were on the losing end of the deal.

2. Will Muschamp is for real - All you needed to see was the stat line for Graham Harrell. Only 2 TD passes. Only 30 points given up by the defense. Muschamp took a banged up front seven and a jailbate young secondary all of whom were exhausted and held Tech to 30 points. That is winnable football against the Red Raiders.

3. Texas Tech is headed for disaster - You could see it. They celebrated like they had just won the national championship. I would not celebrate a last second win against a banged up team you couldn't put away when you had numerous chances to do so. For all the run and gun and all the Texas mistakes, Harrell still needed a miracle (two if you count Gideon's drop of the INT) to win.

Looming in your future is a pretty good Oklahoma State team. Get past them, and a fight with mighty Oklahoma looms. An Oklahoma which will be fresh. A QB who has made throwing for 5 TDs in a game routine. A team which is Tech like in the fact it can get up on you 35-0 in a hurry. Enjoy the #2 ranking Tech fans, because it's not going to last.

Back on topic, Texas still is not out of the woods, facing a great QB and two blooming stars in the next 3 games, but we should be favored in them all. Win out, have Tech lose to OU, and we end up in quite the connundrum.

In any event, I'm still proud to be a Longhorn, and I look forward to Saturday.
