See if this one irks the nerves like the last one

1 - Chris Wells, Ohio State: Wells rumbled for over 1600 yards and 15 TDs last season despite a poor showing in the season opener and a bad ankle that kept him off what could have been a 200 yard 3 TD day against Kent State. Wells is a beast and the focal point of an Ohio State offense looking to work its way into a 3rd shot at a national championship. I expect big things from Wells this year, who is a MUST start each week and is well on his way to being a fantasy superstar. Wells is a 1st round draft choice and should punch out 1800 yards and 20 TDs this season. What gets him the nod at #1 in my opinion is the fact Wells will give you consistent numbers each week and when he spikes...well, your going to be okay with 35 points out of your #1 back aren't you? You never want to gamble with your 1st round draft choice, and Wells is a guarenteed safe pick.

2- Damion Fletcher, Southern Mississippi: I will admit, I have man love for this guy, and even more for what Larry Fedora is going to do with him. Last year Fletcher was outstanding, scoring in almost every game, including numerous multi TD games as he amassed 1800 total yards and 15 TDs. Fletcher had 29 catches last year, a number that should only go up in Fedora's more open offense. I see Fletcher going over the 2000 total yards mark and having around 40 receptions and 20 TDs. Southern Miss has a favorable schedule this year to boot. Fletcher will be there for you at the top of the 2nd round and you can select him with confidence as your #1 RB.

3- LeSean McCoy - Pittsburgh: McCoy is one hell of a RB for the Panthers, who look to improve in 2008. Last season, McCoy was consistent, if not electric as a freshman. McCoy went for over 1500 total yards and 15 TDs. He scored in almost every game and catches the ball well. Many have McCoy labeled as a fantasy superstar in 2008, and he is definatly got the 4 things you want in a #1 back: Consistency, Home run speed, tough, and durable. McCoy's another guy that wont make it out of the first round. 1700 Total yards and 17 TDs with around 40 catches sound good.

4 - Eugene Jarvis, Kent State: Jarvis is a guy that never really showed up on my radar last year, and that was my mistake. As a sophomore, Jarvis rang up around 2000 total yards and 13 TDs. He's a versatile back who catches the ball and gets in the end zone with it in addition to his running duties. He only had one game under 80 yards last year, went over 150 total yards 8 times, and went over 190 total yards 6 times, including a career high 251 total yards and a score against Buffalo in the season finale. Kent State has an easy schedule this year, and Jarvis, who is worthy of a second round draft pick, should amass around 2100 total yards and 17 TDs or so. His value, like that of Harvey Unga listed below, goes up in PPR leagues, but this man is still a great fit your fantasy backfield.

5 - Knowshon Moreno, Georgia: As his name says, you better know this guy come draft day. Moreno burst on the scene last year for a Bulldogs team that kicked ass in the second half of the season, strangely when they started using him more..... Moreno, as a freshman, sharing time with two other backs, went off for over 1500 total yards and 14 TDs. His second half of 2007 was as good as any back in the country. Look for Moreno to become a clear top 5 RB in 2008. Moreno should easily be good for 1500 yards and 16 TDs as the feature back for the national championship contending Georgia Bulldogs. Moreno will give you consistency on par with Chris Wells, but takes a slight downgrade as he will split some carries with Caleb King and plays in a tougher defensive conference. Moreno is a 1st round quality back that may slip into the top of the second round because he plays in the SEC.

6 - Harvey Unga, BYU: Unga is kind of an enigma, a 243lb back that runs just as well as he catches. Last season Unga kicked in over 1600 yards, caught 55 passes, and scored 17 TDs. I expect bigger things out of Unga, and BYU in general this season as they roll toward a possible BCS appearance. Unga should be good for about 1700 yds, but up his TD total into the 20-23 range with some youth at WR for the Cougars. Unga is a good 3rd to 4th round pick and will make you very happy all year long.

7 - Luke Lippencott, Nevada: Lippencott was not as consistent as you'd like to see in a #1 fantasy back, dropping his stock in my opinion. Still, when Lippencott is on, he is fantastic. Lippencott went off for 187yds and 4TDs against Boise State last year, and had numerous multi-TD games. The senior again looks to the focal point in the "pistol" offense, and the Sarge things this back has real potential. Look for Lippencott to be a 3rd or 4th round pick that will compliment at #1 nicely. 1500 yards and 18TDs sound about right.

8 -Ian Johnson, Boise State: Johnson's track record gets him on the list here. Last year was inconsistent for Johnson, as he missed two games due to injury and was sporatic on his production levels when he did play. A dark horse candidate for the Heisman at the start of the 2007 season, Johnson only went over 100 yards 5 times. When Johnson is healthy he's as dangerous a RB in that conference as your going to get, and the flashes were still there last year. Potential wont always buy the groceries, but I expect Johnson to rebound and have a nice season. Boise's QB situation is too unsettled to make me feel comfortable that 8 men wont be in the box all season, but expect Johnson to go for 1300 yards, catch 30 passes, and score 15 TDs. Johnson will be there for you in the late 3rd to mid 4th round.

9 - Marlon Lucky, Nebraska: Lucky appears lower on this list because of scoring differences. In a PPR league, your going to love a RB that hauled in 75 receptions. In a yardage and TDs league, you'll like the 1700 total yards and 13 TDs (one passing). However, remove his uber game against Nevada in the season opener, where he went for over 260 total yards and 4 TDs, and the numbers appear more pedestrian. Bo Pelini should bring more stability to the Huskers this year, who were often playing from behind or just trying to keep up thanks to a terrible defense. Look for Lucky to be avalilable in the 4th round, be a safe pick at that point, and work out decently for you as a more consistent back this season. Id expect around 1200 yards and 10 scores on the ground and 30 receptions with another 3 or 4 TDs.

10 - Jorvorskie Lane, Texas A&M: Lane is this high on my board for one reason. Mike Sherman is no idiot. Lane has been a decent #2 RB to play matchup with the last two seasons because he scores so many TD's. Even with former head man Dennis Franchione forgetting about him at critical points, Lane amassed almost 1000 total yards and 17 TDs. I expect Lane to haul in just over 1000 yards this season to go with 20 TDs. Lane should get the rock 15 times a game, always in short yardage, and will be a back available to you in the top of the 3rd round that your going to want on your team. His TD potential is what shoots him in the list, and I look for more consistency in 2008.

Honorable Mention: Arion Foster, Tennessee, Javon Ringer, Michigan State, Noel Devine, West Virginia. Each of these backs has potential to be great #2 guys, but are currently working through injury, issues, or are stuck in a quagmire of players at their position.

not even a mention of demarco murray? i think he might be my #1 RB overall. or at least pretty far up there.

i also love jon dwyer. tashard choice is graduated now and paul johnson will run run run this year. he could be a stud. i also have to mention justin anderson, the new NIU star rb.

lucky wouldnt touch a top 10 of mine, not close. i think moreno is one of those guys who will get hyped too much and get taken too high for anyone's good. great player surrounded by too many other great players.

i'd probably have murray, ian johnson, and beanie in my top 3. damion fletcher follows shortly thereafter along with unga. in the bottom half of the top 10 in some order, we'll put mccoy, dwyer, anderson, lippincott, and a tie for super-sophs michael smith and mike ford. too many good RBs for one top 10.

DeMarco Murray?

I'll tell you why hes not on my list. He is trying to come back from a dislocated knee cap. He scored 40% of his TDs on opening day against North Texas, and almost 80% of them against North Texas and Baylor. Two games doesnt make him at top tier RB im going to mortgage the farm on, even without that kneecap.

how about oklahoma's should-be-a-pro offensive line making him worth mortgaging the farm on?

obviously you have to watch the health. but hes a stud waiting to happen. last year's stats dont matter. allen patrick is gone now.

And I see more throwing out of the no huddle than running.

You know as well as I do, an Oklahoma backfield is ALWAYS crowded.

What are everyones thoughts on MSU rb Javon Ringer? He rushed for over 1400 yards last year, and he doesnt have Caulcrick this year taking some of his carries and a large portion of his touchdowns away.

To go into Ringers situation in a bit more detail, hes got some stiff competition going against him at MSU, and he could potentially get stuck in an RBBC scenario. If they use him as the feature back, this guys worth a 4th or 5th round pick, but if they dick him around, hes going to be a matchup play at best.

I am hard pressed to find any fault in Sarges' Top Ten. Discussion now seems to be leaning towards other backs with high or sleeper potentials. I am finding this not only interesting but informative as well.

2007 a bit of a down year BUT he missed 3 games.

I seriously dont see Lane being a top 10 RB next season, especially sharing carries with Mike Goodson who I think will emerge as a powerful back this year...we shall see. IMO, Ian Johnson will put up some freakish numbers and will be the #1 back in December. He would be my #1 pick.

Some backs to watch out for:

Jame Davis/CJ Spiller (Clemson) - if one of these guys go down, watch out for the other. either way, these two will put up some numbers.

Charles Scott/Keiland Williams - if one of these guys emerges as a go to back you will see Jacob Hester *2 type numbers. They will be running behind one of the best OLs in the country and have a raw QB. Factor that in with a bunch of soft match ups and who knows.

PJ Hill (Wisconsin) - I believe should be in the Top 10.
Javarris James (Miami)
Joe McKnight (USC)
Tyrell Sutton (Northwestern) - I believe he is still there???

I dont like the crowded backfield or the injuries.

Everyone is going to agree with me or 4 or 5 backs and then make great cases for other backs.

Perhaps closer before the season some of you guys and I can come up with a "top 20" at each position?

Sarge I would like to start off by saying you have done a great job getting this College Fantasy Football forum going. It is very helpful and imformative. I believe Moreno should be the second best RB behind Wells. They will both put up great numbers, but wells will have a better year because the Buckeyes will lean on him a little more than UGA will with Moreno. I also like PJ Hill for the badgers putting up good numbers because Wisconsin loves to run the football. And also Arian Foster would be in my top 10 with Ainge gone I look for Fullmer to hand the ball off and to throw screen passes a lot to Foster.
