Sgt Johns College FF TE Rankings

Due to the declining influence of the TE in College Football, only the elite will be mentioned in this article.

1 - Darius Hill, Ball State - Hill is the Michael Crabtree of Fantasy TE's, hauling in 65 receptions for 926 yards and 11 TDs. Hill will get your 4 or 5 catches a game for 60-80 yards and will usually pitch in a TD. Hill will be the first TE off the board and should be available in the 4th round when the run starts.

2 - Travis Beckum, Wisconsin - Beckhum was better statistically than Hill last year in every area but one...TDs. Beckum hauled in 75 passes for 982 yards and 6 TDs. Expect more of the same in 2008, as Beckum is another guy who will give you 4 or 5 catches per game for 60-80 yards, just dont expect the TDs to be there all the time. Beckum is a 5th or 6th round draft choice.

3 - Chase Coffman, Missouri - Coffman was pretty good last year, even playing basically behind Martin Rucker, hauling in 7 TDs and over 500 yards receiving along with 52 catches. With Rucker gone, look for Coffman to head toward a 60 catch, 9 TD year with around 700 yards receiving s he looks to impress NFL scouts. Consistency again is a key, and it should be present here. Coffman will be available in 5th to 6th round.

4 - Cody Slate, Marshall - Slate had a good season last year, going for 66 receptions, 818 yards and 5 scores. Marshall was pretty awful last year, and I dont see any real improvement teamwise, but Mr. Slate is in his "impress the NFL" junior season. Look for a similar statistical season from Slate, who will go a bit higher than he should because of name recognition, around the 5th round.

5 - James Casey, Rice - Casey had a nice freshman season and was deadly in conference when he seems to have gotten comfortable at this level. Casey is coming off a year where he had a respectable 46 catches, 585 yards and 4 TDs to go with 5 scores on the ground. Look for Casey to give you more of the same with around 55 receptions and an extra TD in the air and on the ground. Casey is playing with an experienced QB and WR to take the heat off him and will be open all day long. His hybrid status moves him into a 5th to 7th round selection.

6 - Rob Gronkowski, Arizona - Another Arizona player who got comfortable with his QB and WR, Gronkowski was dominant down the stretch for the Wildcats, and had a monster game against Washington State. Gronkowski is only going to improve in his sophomore year, and we look for big things in 2008. Gronkowski will be a later round selection or picked up in free agency in smaller leagues, and will show he was worthy of a draft pick.

7 - Bear Pascoe, Fresno State -
Pascoe was a top tier TE going into 2007, had four TDs in the first two games, and then hasnt found the endzone since. Pascoe is still a physical specimen and is still the best TE in the WAC, plus he's another guy in his impress the NFL year. Look for Pascoe to put up similar numbers, but later in the season given the Bulldogs brutal opening schedule. Pascoe will be a guy someone reaches on, possibly as high as the 4th round, but in reality is a 7th to 9th round selection.

Honorable Mention: Andrew Mooney, Ohio, Dennis Pitta, BYU, Jermaine Gresham, Oklahoma
