| Psychopath | The ACC - Week 4 Preview Sports Outlaw ACC Week 4 1.4 After last weekend, the only ranked ACC team, Wake Forrest, now has two other teams from the Atlantic Coastal Conference joining them within the top 25. Wake is ranked the highest at 18th, Clemson was ranked 23rd after last week’s victory over North Carolina State, and Florida State, with two dominating victories on the season, comes in at 24th. This week, the 18th ranked team will visit the 24th ranked team in a matchup that will see two of the three undefeated ACC teams record their first loss. While Florida State has not truly been tested this season, their first game was against a visiting Western Carolina and their second was against a visiting Chattanooga, they have still managed to put up an impressive 115 points, however, Wake Forrest has only allowed an average of 20.5 points scored against them, 37 points less than FSU’s average points per game. And while neither Western Carolina nor Chattanooga were able to expose the Seminoles’ defense, Riley Skinner, with a completion rate of 74.7% on the season, is certain to challenge the untested secondary at Doak Campbell Stadium. However, at this point in the year, if anyone has to keep up with the arm of Riley Skinner I can think of no better candidate than Christian Ponder. Ponder has completed 24 passes for 376 yards and 6 touchdowns. Ponder has looked like a pro in the pocket, and the Demon Deacons are going to have to be at their best to rattle this sophomore. The winner of this game will jump ahead of Clemson in the ACC standings and truly become the team to beat in the Atlantic Coastal Conference, you don’t want to miss this game. With Virginia Tech holding off Georgia Tech last weekend and UNC defeating Rutgers by 32, the matchup of the top Coastal team against the last undefeated ACC team also promises to be worth viewing. While UNC’s quarterback, T.J. Yates, has looked phenomenal on the year, 442 yards and 5 touchdowns, he is going to have to play his best game of the year to keep up with Virginia Tech’s Darren Evans and Tyrod Taylor. The two have combined for 389 rushing yards and 4 touchdowns, and while Evans will certainly receive the bulk of the running plays, Taylor, a Tim Tebowesque quarterback, will certainly be a concern for the Tarheels defense. Virginia Tech is favored in this one but expect North Carolina to put up a valiant fight. Other games worth watching this week in the ACC: UCF @ Boston College; South Carolina State @ (23) Clemson; Miami @ Texas A&M. ACC Updated Standings: Atlantic Division: Clemson (1-0) (2-1) Florida State (0-0) (2-0) Wake Forrest (0-0) (2-0) Maryland (0-0) (2-1) Boston College (0-1) (1-1) North Carolina State (0-1) (1-2) Coastal Division: Virginia Tech (1-0) (2-1) Georgia Tech (1-1) (2-1) North Carolina (0-0) (2-0) Duke (0-0) (2-1) Miami (0-0) (1-1) Virginia (0-0) (1-2) |
