Saints re-signed RB Aaron Stecker to a one-year, $1.4 million contract.

The '07 fantasy playoff hero got a similar from Tampa, but choose not to move. Stecker showed he is still a capable tailback, but his role will mostly be on special teams and third downs. With Pierre Thomas emerging, Stecker is a long way from fantasy value.

wow that is awfully surprising, with all the bad blood from last offseason. i was just about certain that briggs would be gone. bummer. i wouldve much rather had that bear than the one we got at WR instead.

Crumpler left Seattle on Friday, apparently going to visit 1 more team with a Seahawks offer in hand. Since then not a peep anywhere. Apparently that last visit was cancelled and he just went home for the weekend to mull it over.

Seahawk Addicts: All Signs Point to Alge

Quote:
He doesn't seem to be making that final visit, so I am going to assume he and his family are weighing the pros and cons, but all signs point to him coming back to Kirkland and putting pen to paper.
Seahawks fans are just it out now. Still expect Seattle to draft a TE in the 3rd/4th round though

TURNER TO ATLANTA IS OFFICIAL

The Falcons have announced that they have agreed to terms with free-agent running back Michael Turner.

"We are pleased to be able to add a very talented running back and a player who has produced at a high level in this League when given the opportunity,” said Falcons General Manager Thomas Dimitroff in a press release. "We think he’s ready to take the next step and have a more prominent role in an offense and we are happy he decided that opportunity is going to be here in Atlanta."

Michael Smith of ESPN.com reports that the deal is for six years, and is worth $34.5 million. Also, Turner will get $15 million in guaranteed money.

ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports Josh McCown "definitely" will be Miami's No. 2 quarterback in 2008. John Beck will compete with someone else to start.
It initially seemed like McCown signed to be a placeholder, but Mort indicates that Dolphins management is as high on Beck as they let on this winter. It's a good thing, because McCown belongs on the bench. The Dolphins now seem very likely to use a top three round pick on a quarterback this April.

ALGE IS A TITAN

On Friday, there were reports that free-agent tight end Alge Crumpler was poised to sign with the Seahawks.

It didn't happen.

Instead, Adam Schefter of NFL Network reports that Crumpler has joined the Titans, a team flush with cap space and in desperate need of a boost to the passing game.

Crumpler became a Pro Bowler in Atlanta while playing with a run-oriented quarterback who often found Crumpler open while scrambling out of the pocket.

So, basically, Crumpler could be a Pro Bowler again in Tennessee.

Chicago trades Griese to the Buc's

Bucs Beat | tampabay.com - St. Petersburg Times and tbt*: Archives

Quote:
Chicago Bears quarterback Brian Griese has been traded to the Bucs.
Terms of the deal were undisclosed, but it is believed to be for a second-day draft pick in 2009. Griese was owed a $300,000 roster bonus Tuesday, prompting the Bears to part ways with their veteran backup. Rather than risk bidding for him in free agency, the Bucs completed a trade.
It's Griese's second stint with Tampa Bay. He quarterbacked the Bucs to a 5-1 start in 2005 before suffering a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his knee. Chris Simms went 6-5 down the stretch, leading the Bucs to the playoffs before a loss to Washington in the NFC wildcard game.

Unconfirmed
---------------------------
Andy Reid was on the telephone this afternoon for over an hour with Randy Moss but he wasn't able to talk him into turning down a 3 year $27 million deal with Patriots. Moss decided to stay put where he is with the Patriots. Reid and the Eagles weren't willing to better the offer from the Pats.

Moss got the offer from the Patriots this weekend, but didn't immediately sign the deal because he wanted to see if other teams were willing to better the offer. The Eagles were one of the teams Moss was interested in playing for, so they got in touch with Andy Reid and wanted know if he was willing to better the deal.

Obviously, Andy and the Eagles were not willing to make a better offer so Randy Moss stays put with the New England Patriots.

So the Eagles must continue their search for a true number one wide receiver. If they had signed Moss they would have acquired the best deep receiver in all of the NFL. Moss broke the NFL record last year for most TD receptions.

The Birds can't say they didn't have a chance because Moss and his agent got Andy Reid and the Eagles on the phone and talked for what I understand, nearly two hours. I'm going to try to find out exactly what was discussed other than the contract.

Odom Signs with Cincy

Quote:
Antwan Odom recorded his first sack as a Bengal Monday when he swooped in from Tennessee to give Cincinnati its first jolt in free agency.
Agent Rich Rosa confirmed the five-year deal Monday evening that borders on $30 million with more than $11 million guaranteed.
The Bengals pursued him Odom aggressively that they literally took him off his route bound for the airport. Rosa said he was headed back from the airport to stay in town Monday night.
The 6-5, 274-pound Odom rung up eight sacks in his first season as a starter last year for the Titans and gives the Bengals another lean and athletic pass-rushing threat opposite left end Robert Geathers.

Falcons Cut RB Dunn

ATLANTA (AP) — Warrick Dunn was released by the Atlanta Falcons on Monday, one day after the club signed free agent running back Michael Turner.

Last season, Dunn became the 22nd back in NFL history to rush for 10,000 yards. But his days in Atlanta were numbered after the Falcons doled out a six-year contract to Turner, reportedly for $34.5 million with about $15 million guaranteed.

The 33-year-old Dunn had three straight 1,000-yard seasons with the Falcons, helping the team lead the NFL in rushing from 2004-06. He ran for a career-high 1,416 yards in 2005, earning his third Pro Bowl appearance.
