Chargers coach Norv Turner said on the NFL Network that Philip Rivers (knee) will be a "Sunday morning decision" against the Patriots. Rivers didn't practice Thursday, but did some throwing on the side.

Turner said that Rivers "absolutely" has a chance to play against the Pats as long as he's able to go through pre-game warmups. However, talk is buzzing in Boston that Rivers may have a partially torn ACL which could restrict his ability to move laterally. The partial tear wouldn't necessarily rule Rivers out, but would increase the odds of Billy Volek seeing action.

Giants signed DE Justin Tuck to a five-year, $30-million contract extension.

The deal includes $16 million in guaranteed money and will start after next season, meaning Tuck is signed through 2013. The versatile lineman managed to accumulate ten sacks this past season despite not starting and is a force against the run. It's a great deal for both sides, although Osi Umenyiora and Michael Strahan, who each make less, are going to want to re-negotiate their contracts.

Cowboys DL coach Paul Pasqualoni is expected to be named Dolphins defensive coordinator, according to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

It's unclear when the hire will take place. Cowboys DBs coach Todd Bowles is also expected to head to South Beach to become assistant head coach/defense. The Cowboys are pursuing Hall of Fame offensive line coach Hudson Houck to replace Tony Sparano. Houck coached in Dallas between 1993-2001

A breakout 2007 campaign for New York Giants backup defensive end Justin Tuck will on Friday become a break-the-bank season for the three-year veteran.
Tuck and the Giants reached agreement Thursday on a five-year contract extension that runs through the 2013 season, has a maximum value of $30 million, and includes $16 million in bonuses. Barring any last-minute glitches, the final details of the deal will be completed on Friday and the contract will be officially executed.

Philip Rivers is listed as doubtful for the AFC Championship. The San Diego Union-Tribune has confirmed that Rivers' ACL is partially torn.

However, Rivers practiced Friday and still has a chance to play against the Patriots, pending his performance in pre-game warmups. "It'll be day-to-day," GM A.J. Smith said. "We're going down the same road as (Antonio) Gates." The Chargers used Gates in the Divisional Round despite listing him as doubtful. Still, Billy Volek seems likely to play extensively on Sunday
