Cowboys owner Jerry Jones denies he'd consider removing head coach Wade Phillips and replacing him with Jason Garrett after the season.

"There's nothing that can happen in the playoffs that would change my thinking about him being head coach," Jones said of Phillips. "I don't know how you could even have a question as to whether or not he's coaching or not for the Cowboys in the future." Garrett could just get an extension and promotion to assistant head coach if Tony Sparano departs.

D.J. Hackett is hurt again. GTD

KIRKLAND, Wash. -- Just as the Seahawks got finally got all of their receivers back and healthy, D.J. Hackett is hurt again.

D.J. Hackett

Hackett

Seattle's oft-injured starting receiver missed all but the stretching portion of practice Thursday, the team's final one before it leaves for Saturday's NFC divisional playoff game against Green Bay.

Hackett aggravated a sprained right ankle that he's had for most of the season by practicing on Wednesday. Four days earlier, he had six catches for 101 yards and a touchdown in the victory over Washington in the wild-card game.

Terrell Owens (high ankle sprain) ran routes and caught passes in his return to Cowboys practice Thursday.

Despite media reports and Cowboys coach Wade Phillips saying Owens wasn't practicing the past two days, all the players said he was. T.O. showed no limp on Thursday, but the team may have told him not to speak with reporters. "You're not going to get anything out of me," he said when approached.

He will never retire. Ever. At that time he should have around 140,000 passing yards.

i dont understand why there hasnt been much buzz about one of washingtons top notch coordinators getting the spot, especially since gregg williams was promised the job with an expensive clause in his contract already.

An interesting point Da_Bomb. Also alot of these reports at this point have to be taken with a big grain of salt. The Tony Sparano is a lock and is not a lock. The Pete Carroll on again, off again, on again and off again. A lot of NFL writers have nothing better to do but throw stuff up on the wall and hope circumstances develop later to make them look like insightful geniuses.

You have got to think that any candidate for a head coaching job this year has one thought bubbling in the back of his mind. With Cower maybe available next year how long will I have this job, if I get it?

Its amazing coach that there is more posts in this forum after the season then during the season haha. You are absolutely right on the NFL reporters trying to stir up some news.

The Browns fired defensive coordinator Todd Grantham Friday.

Grantham was once viewed as a possible in-house replacement for Romeo Crennel, but his defense regressed for a second straight year. They never stopped the run, and the pass defense inexplicably struggled despite solid talent. Secondary coach Mel Tucker Jr. is a possible successor to Grantham.

Broncos | Henry could be on way out
Fri, 11 Jan 2008 10:34:52 -0800

Mike Klis, of the Denver Post, reports Denver Broncos RB Travis Henry will only remain with the team in 2008 if he accepts a substantial pay cut from the $6.7 million he's tentatively scheduled to earn. If the team and Henry can't agree on a new deal they will look for another lead back in the offseason, as head coach Mike Shanahan believes RB Selvin Young is ideal for no more than 15 carries per game.

Chargers | Surgery a possibility for Gates
Fri, 11 Jan 2008 08:29:24 -0800

Bill Center, of the San Diego Union-Tribune, reports San Diego Chargers TE Antonio Gates (toe) said that surgery is a possibility for his injured left big toe. Gates, however, remains a game-time decision for the team's Divisional Round game. "Unfortunately I really can't say at this point whether or not I'm going to have surgery because it's still a 50-50 chance," Gates said.

The agent for Marty Schottenheimer says the Ravens and his client have been in contact.

Agent Trace Armstrong, a former lineman in the league, says the talks are in their initial stages. Schottenheimer is believed to be very interested in returning to coaching after taking 2007 off. If he gets the Ravens' job, it's expected that he'd bring along Cam Cameron to be offensive coordinator.

Daniel Graham was arrested early Friday on suspicion of criminal mischief and harassment.

Graham allegedly entered a ex-girlfriend's house without permission and did damage to her bed. The former couple were believed to be arguing about the sale of their home. Police say Graham hit the woman's bedpost and busted it. He was taken into custody at 2AM and released on $2,500 bond

D.J. Hackett (ankle) and Deion Branch (calf) are both active Saturday against the Packers.

The Seahawks' super productive receiving corps is intact for one of the first times all year. QB Charlie Frye, WR Logan Payne, FB David Kirtman, TE Bennie Joppru, DE Jason Babin, G Mansfield Wrotto, T Ray Willis, and WR Courtney Taylor are Seattle's inactives

In a bid to keep Tony Dungy after this season, team owner Jim Irsay has offered the coach increased flexibility with his job.

Odd story to be coming out a day before a playoff game. Dungy's children have enrolled in Tampa-area schools and the team clearly believes he may be leaning towards quitting. Irsay is offering three-to-four months away during the offseason, and use of Irsay's private plane for family events. Dungy says he'll take a few days after the season to make a decision
