NFL News And Rumors: Playoffs //Super Bowl & Bye Week

Last week turned out to be another busy week for the News and Rumors thread. As usual, Sports Outlaw posters' contributions played a Huge part in keeping the entire Sports Outlaw community up to date. I would like to thank all the posters who stopped by and contributed this last week.

gmrcharity/var8rfan : var8rfan/gmrcharity.
These two have been invaluable all year. Since things will slow down soon I want to give them a big thank you, as should you all. They have been pumping an incredible amount of News to the Thread in a timely and accurate manner. They are true news professionals with a great work ethic. Actually, they make me look like the old guy, (behind/behind on) the news.

I can only hope that working the news so hard added to their Fantasy skills. It looks like they both will take 100,000 vbucks from Da_Bomb, speaking of which......

Da_Bomb was by contributing a bunch this week

Arctic Dawgs had some timely news updates

Nikki had some breaking news on new coaches.

From what I have read Chargers RB Ladainian Tomlinson took an early shot directly to his bad knee and suffered an MCL sprain.

Philip Rivers confirmed after Sunday's loss to New England that he will likely need surgery to repair a torn ACL in his right knee.

Rivers' MCL is also sprained in that knee. The extent of the procedure Rivers would need is unclear, but a reconstruction at this point in the year would put his status for Week 1 in 2008 in doubt

The contracts of Cowboys LBs coach Paul Pasqualoni, DL coach Kacy Rodgers, and DBs coach Todd Bowles all expire on Monday. All three could be announced as additions to the Dolphins' staff as soon as today. Pasqualoni is the top candidate to be Miami's defensive coordinator.

Tony Dungy is sticking with the Colts.

The team said Monday that Dungy will remain with Indianapolis through at least the 2008 season before turning over the coaching to hand-picked successor Jim Caldwell.

Chargers quarterback Philip Rivers said Monday that he had arthroscopic surgery on his right knee a week ago in order to play in the AFC Championship Game, and that he'll need surgery on the torn anterior cruciate ligament in the same joint.

Apparently, Rivers had an O-scope last week to clean out loose cartilage.

Tom Brady caught in protective walking boot

The NY Post has a photo of Tom Brady wearing a protective boot on his right (plant) foot as he makes his way to girlfriend Gisele's New York apartment.

The photo was taken on Monday. TMZ.com also has video of Brady limping noticeably. He admits he was "nicked up" in Sunday's win over San Diego. "There are always kind of bumps and bruises," Brady said Monday. "I'll be ready for the Super Bowl. There will just be some treatment this week...but it's nothing serious." Brady has two weeks to shake off the injury. Jan. 21 - 9:51 pm et

EPSN also showed the photo. What does it mean? Not enough information on his injury yet but serious enough for a boot. We'll update as it develops.

Gates likely to undergo surgery on big toe

Chargers coach Norv Turner indicated Monday that Antonio Gates will likely need surgery on his dislocated big toe.

"It might be the best thing for him to have something done in there just for the long term," Turner said. Gates wasn't effective playing with the injury in the playoffs. Surgery could cause him to miss early offseason workouts.

Falcons May Be Looking To Tap NYG DC Steve Spagnulo

One of two NFL franchises still without a coach, the Falcons were poised to formally request permission to interview Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo had New York lost on Sunday. But the overtime field goal by Lawrence Tynes that lifted the Giants to a 23-20 victory means that the Falcons cannot meet with Spagnuolo until after Super Bowl XLII in two weeks.

The Falcons have interviewed 7 candidates for the head coaching position. But now they appear to be waiting on making a decision until they can talk to Spagnuolo. It looks like the Giants playoff success may have catapulted Spagnuolo into a Head Coaching job.

ESPN - For Spagnuolo, Falcons delay call on coach until after Super Bowl - NFL

Fassel Talks To Skins

Jim Fassel, the last coach to take the New York Giants to a Super Bowl, met with Washington Redskins owner Daniel Snyder on Monday, league sources told ESPN's Chris Mortensen.
Fassel could emerge as a serious candidate for the Redskins' head coaching vacancy or as a potential offensive coordinator, the sources said. Fassel could not be reached for comment. Fassel was a finalist for the Redskins job in 2004 until Joe Gibbs came out of retirement to replace Steve Spurrier. Snyder and vice president of player personnel Vinny Cerrato traveled cross country on Christmas Eve in 2003 to conduct a two-day interview with Fassel, who had been fired as the Giants coach.

New Lions coordinator Jim Colletto says the team's No. 1 offseason priority on offense is finding a new running back.

Kevin Jones (torn ACL) is expected to be ready by training camp, but this isn't a ringing endorsement. "We're going to look around," Colletto said. "I don't know how well Kevin Jones is going to respond to the injuries. We've got to find somebody who's going to be consistent." It sounds like Colletto may even be searching for a back to replace Jones as the starter

Terry Glenn will need microfracture surgery on his knee.

It's becoming more and more unlikely that the Cowboys will retain Glenn at his current $1.74 million price tag. When Jerry Jones was asked about Glenn's future with Dallas, he said he would discuss it with him soon, and left it at that. Glenn's career is most likely over, but there's a chance the Cowboys could give him a small contract to rehab with them

After being photographed in a walking boot earlier Monday, Tom Brady was out in New York Monday night without the boot on.

Yes, we continue to be amazed we're sourcing TMZ, but it's the Super Bowl off week! Anyhow, despite some ominous statements from a paid medical hack in the NY tabloids Tuesday morning, the fact that Brady is in New York rather than getting treatment is proof its a minor issue. That he doesn't need the walking boot all the time seals it.

For those of you who actually believed the original report. JOKE
