ESPN's Michael Smith reports that the Falcons are leaning toward hiring Jaguars defensive coordinator Mike Smith as their head coach.

The announcement could come as soon as Wednesday. It was believed that the Falcons would wait to interview Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, but the team feared being left at the altar again after the Giants rejected one request to let Spagnuolo interview earlier in the offseason

I like this move. He has shown he can be a very good OC....and with a rookie head coach....he has experience to help.

NFL | Reid convicted on drug charge
Wed, 23 Jan 2008 14:26:51 -0800

The Associated Press reports former Indianapolis Colts SS Dexter Reid was convicted of possession of marijuana with intent to distribute Wednesday, Jan. 23, a felony charge which could carry a jail sentence of up to 10 years. Reid's attorney hopes to get the charge reduced to a misdemeanor, claiming there was no intent to distribute the marijuana found in Reid's car, which would lower the maximum jail sentence to one year. Reid was also acquitted of carrying a concealed weapon.

Buccaneers | Garcia to play in Pro Bowl
Thu, 24 Jan 2008 13:53:17 -0800

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have announced QB Jeff Garcia has been selected to play in the 2008 Pro Bowl. He will replace Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre, who has pulled out of the game.

Anyone know why Favre pulled out of the Pro Bowl?

Not that I am aware of. He said it was an unspecified injury which sounds like fishing too me. While Hawaii sounds great to us, he has been before. Also, potentially 8,000 questions about his last game and retirement would send me fishing first.

Don't forget he had the reinjury to his elbow late in the season. He played through it last year, and did this year again also. So this might just be that.

Your right , of course! After a 16 game season at his age I'm sure there are enough bumps and bruises to want to go into vacation mode as soon as possible....................and go fishing.

Brady, Brady, Brady.

For the second consecutive day, Patriots quarterback Tom Brady wasn't in the locker room or at practice when reporters and cameramen were allowed inside Friday. During the 45-minute period in the locker room, several cameramen lingered near his locker, but he didn't show up. Nor was he there for the first 12 minutes of practice that the media were allowed to watch.

ESPN - Belichick still plays coy, as media plays game of 'Where's Tom?' - NFL
