Bengals LB Odell Thurman Returning From Limbo?

Suspended Bengals linebacker Odell Thurman expects to learn in a few weeks whether the NFL will reinstate him for next season, ending his two-year banishment. Thurman has applied for reinstatement and should know in mid-February whether commissioner Roger Goodell will allow him back in the game, agent Safarrah Lawson said.

Donna Goodison, of Boston Herald, reports Kentucky Fried Chicken said it will donate $260,000 to a charity if a player from the New England Patriots or the New York Giants would do the wing-flapping dance for three seconds in the end zone during the Super Bowl to help with their national promotion. Brian McCarthy, a spokesperson for the NFL, said if a player does the dance, they may face a fine because KFC is not affiliated with the league. Rick Maynard, a spokesperson for KFC, said some agents have already contacted the company, and the company will contact players who will most likely get into the end zone.

...well...at least it's for charity

Interesting sidenote to this. Reported during Senior Bowl by NFL Network that Kiffin did not wear any Raiders clothing during the week of practices or during the game. Only wore black Under Armour clothing. All other coaches wore Raiders clothing

The Associated Press reports Oakland Raiders head coach Lane Kiffin said he hopes to remain with the team for 2008. Kiffin would not offer further comment on a report by ESPN that team owner Al Davis drew up a resignation later for him two weeks ago.

Colts Meeks Gets 2nd Interview for Redskins HC

As their search for a head coach continues, the Washington Redskins will give Colts defensive coordinator Ron Meeks a second interview Tuesday in Indianapolis.
With defensive coordinator Gregg Williams being fired Saturday, Meeks and former New York Giants coach Jim Fassel are currently in the final two. It's possible, however, the Redskins could interview Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo after the Super Bowl.

Jerry Jones dealing for McFadden

ProFootballTalk.com -- The Best Pro Football Scoop on the Internet

Quote:
'BOYS TO MAKE A DEAL WITH THE FINS?
ESPN's Chris Mortensen suggested during a special edition of Sunday NFL Countdown that Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is eyeing the possibility of swinging a trade with the Dolphins for the No. 1 overall pick in the 2008 draft.
Such a deal would allow the 'Boys to bag running back Darren McFadden, who played college football at Jones' alma mater of Arkansas.
Per Mort, any such deal would have to include the rights to Cowboys running back Marion Barber, who is slated to be a restricted free agent. To make it happen, the Cowboys would have to work out a sign-and-trade deal before Barber gets a chance to ink an offer sheet that would force the Cowboys to match the terms or let him go in exchange for compensation. Thus, the safest bet for the 'Boys would be to tender Barber at the highest possible level, which would force any team that signs him to give up a first-round pick and a third-round pick. Those extra picks then could be used to sweeten the pot for the top spot in the draft.
And it's clear that the Cowboys are going to have to find a way to enhance the two first-rounders that they can offer up for the No. 1 pick. Under the revised draft order, the Cowboys pick at No. 22 (from Cleveland) and at No. 28. Under the trade chart, the No. 22 overall pick is worth 780 points and the No. 28 selection is worth 660 points. The No. 1 selection has a value of 3,000 points; thus, the Cowboys would be a whopping 1,560 points short.
Though the trade chart arguably needs to be adjusted to reflect the fact that the enormous financial investment that is now required when using the top pick makes the prospects of a move up even more fraught with risk, the Fins could justify the 1,560-point gap by placing that value on Barber, who coupled with Ronnie Brown could give Miami a deadly one-two punch in the backfield.
Some readers think that the framework for a deal is already in place, and was part of the unspoken understanding that allowed the Dolphins to have their way with the Dallas front office and coaching staff. If that's true it wouldn't surprise us. Jones surely covets McFadden, and our guess is that he is willing to do whatever is necessary to get him.
I think it's a crazy idea. Too much to give up. He should consult with Ditka on this one

Interesting speculation, so Miami would get Barber and two first rounders. Or Barber goes elsewhere and Miami gets those picks also. There has been a lot of speculation about this in general but this is the first rumor that has possible specifics included.

Bengals May Switch D Scheme.

Mark Curnutte, of The Cincinnati Enquirer, reports the Cincinnati Bengals are considering using the 3-4 defense next season but have not made a decision. Last season, they used the 4-3 defense.

Rumorish at this point. But something for IDP leaguers to keep an eye on for a potential tweener.

The NFL has given suspended LB Odell Thurman clearance to train and work out at the Bengals' training facility.

This is a strong indication that the league will let Thurman back in when he meets with commissioner Roger Goodell in two weeks, barring any slip-ups before then. It is also phenomenal news for the Bengals, who have had little luck on or off the field since Carson Palmer's postseason ACL tear

The Washington Post believes NFL Network analyst Steve Mariucci may be emerging as a strong candidate to be the Redskins' next head coach.

This isn't a report, but makes an awful lot of sense. Mariucci has strong ties to new defensive boss Greg Blache and teaches the West Coast offense Jim Zorn learned under Mike Holmgren. Redskins front office man Vinny Cerrato reportedly "loves" Mooch. Mariucci is believed to be interested in coaching again. The Redskins are not commenting on their lengthy search.
