The St. Louis Rams hired Al Saunders as offensive coordinator on Wednesday, another step in a coaching staff overhaul following a three-win season. Saunders was fired by the Washington Redskins on Saturday after two seasons in the same position. He'll begin his second stint with the Rams after serving as an assistant under Dick Vermeil in 1999 and 2000, helping the Rams win their first Super Bowl after the '99 season.

The Associated Press reports the executive director of the NFL Players Association, Gene Upshaw, said Thursday, Jan. 31, that if NFL owners opt out of the current labor agreement later this year, the players' union is ready for a strike. In the 2006 agreement, players received an extra $850-900 million in the form of revenue sharing, raising the salary cap for 2007 to $107 million. Upshaw said the biggest disagreement is within the league, between small-market and large-market owners who disagree over non-shared revenue, such as local advertising, concessions and parking.

Giants WR Plaxico Burress hasn't practiced a lot this year do to ankle problems. He missed Wednesdays practice and the injury report said ankle.
He missed Thursdays practice and that report also listed knee as a injury along with the ankle. He donned pads and ran a few routes in pre-practice warmups and is expected to play.

Matt Leinart will consult Dr. James Andrews about soreness he's recently been experiencing in his knee.

Visits to Dr. Andrews often involve surgery, but a recent MRI revealed no structural damage. Leinart played most of his college career with a bulky knee brace and had tendinitis in it from time to time. The meeting appears to be precautionary for now

Joey Galloway underwent surgery Wednesday on the shoulder that sidelined him for most of Tampa Bay's Wild Card loss to the Giants.

The team expects him to be ready for the offseason program.

A league source told the Boston Globe that Patriots offensive coordinator Josh McDaniels will not pursue the Redskins' head coaching job.


Giants defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo will interview for the Redskins' head coaching job early next week, according to the New York Daily News.

Chris Brown, of BuffaloBills.com, reports NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell confirmed Friday, Feb. 1, that the plans for the Buffalo Bills to play five regular season games and three preseason games in Toronto over the next five years has been finalized. Goodell stated that one regular season game would be played in Toronto each year of the five-year pact, and a preseason game would be played there every other year.

Browns | Winslow plans to have knee surgery

ESPN.com reports Cleveland Browns TE Kellen Winslow (knee) said he will undergo offseason knee surgery. He said his shoulder may be strong enough but he is "really worried about" his knee. "Your legs are your life. I need my knee," Winslow said. According to the Cleveland Plain Dealer, it is believed he will have surgery on his right knee. He has had multiple surgeries on the same knee since 2005.

An unnamed source has claimed a New England Patriots employee secretly videotaped the St. Louis Rams' pregame walk-through the day before Super Bowl XXXVI, the Boston Herald reported Saturday.

Drew Rosenhaus, Chad Johnson's agent, says his client will not hold out in 2008.

"Chad Johnson will play football in 2008," said Rosenhaus when told of an ESPN report that Johnson feels betrayed by the Bengals and might sit out the season. Chris Mortensen's report also said that the team would rather let Johnson sit than honor his implied trade requests. Trading or cutting Johnson this offseason would cause Cincinnati to take a monster cap hit.
