Raiders Drop RB Dominic Rhodes

There was a lot of speculation that the Raiders banged up RB Michael Bush would be cut during the off-season no matter what happens in the draft. With RB McFadden added to the roster via the draft Bush would seem a goner. Surprise, RB Dominic Rhodes gets cut. A trade during the draft put the Raiders over the cap by a number that is very close to Rhodes salary.

Rhodes should be able to find a spot on someones roster.

ESPN - Rhodes is odd man out after Raiders draft McFadden - NFL

Rhodes will land somewhere. Not a real shocker he was cut, what will be a shocker to me is if they don't cut or trade Jordan, although they might keep him to mentor McFadden.

I never believed Bush would get the ax, I am excited to see what he can do.

Look for Dominic Rhodes to end up in New Orleans. Reginald Bush is not an inside runner and McOWlister has bad knees times deux......

New Orleans, Carolina, or even back with Indianapolis. NO needs some insurance between Bush's inablity to run between the tackles and Duece's shaky knee.

Rhodes would fit into Carolina's offense and with Foster gone, a proven backup would be a nice addition. Indi knows him, and he knows them. There is no learning curve their. Now that they know what the offense looks like without Addai, a little proven insurance would be nice, especially a guy who comes in from day one and doesn't have to spend a bunch of time catching up.

Panther Add DT Ian Scott

The Carolina Panthers added more depth at defensive tackle with the signing of free agent Ian Scott.

The second Free Agent DT in two days. Guess they don't want to run short this year.

Let the Denver RB Sleeper Hype Season Begin!

Quote:
On the second day of the draft, five of the seven Broncos selections had some kind of significant injury in their collegiate careers and two of the players -- Bowling Green guard Kory Lichtensteiger and Arizona State running back Ryan Torain -- are still recovering from shoulder and foot surgeries, respectively.

Torain pronounced himself "100 percent" Sunday from foot surgery that kept him out of the last six games of '07, but the Broncos may still limit his work some leading up to their June minicamps. Lichtensteiger, who had a labrum repaired, was still trying to get back to full speed having his right shoulder repaired after this past season

It's not a foolproof system, but Shanahan has routinely believed beyond the third round or so it can be worth the risk if the player is good enough. And he certainly thinks Torain is good enough -- he was one of Shanahan's favorite backs on the board -- and worth the risk that a new kind of surgery will be the difference.

Alexander to Bengals?

Quote:
The draft is completed. The Bengals did not select a running back. Coach Marvin Lewis said the team is optimistic that tailbacks Rudi Johnson and Chris Perry will return to health and the field in 2008. There is depth with Kenny Watson. There is the untapped potential of DeDe Dorsey, who has been a regular during the offseason at the facility. There is the Kenny Irons, who probably won't be ready for the start of training camp as he continues to rehab from a torn ACL injury, but he was the Bengals' second-round pick in 2007.

OK, what about adding a former league MVP to the mix in Shaun Alexander? The former Boone County star and Florence resident was terminated by the Seahawks this offseason after eight years in Seattle.

"Making calls to teams. Bengals are on our list!" Jim Steiner, Alexander's agent, told The Enquirer in an e-mail this morning.
Bengals: Alexander to Bengals?

And the beat don't stop when it comes to wild speculation, folks! I saw on NFL Network this morning that Housh mentioned how well Perry looked this off-season and seemed to intimate he might be able to work his way back onto the field with Rudi. So this is a bit odd.

Dynamic Dixon intrigues Steelers

Quote:
The Steelers, who took Dixon in the fifth round of the NFL Draft on Sunday, won't ask the 23-year-old quarterback to win any games in the near future. They are optimistic that eventually he can back up Ben Roethlisberger, a role the 33-year-old Charlie Batch has filled so capably, and get on the field in select situations.

It is, however, too early for the Steelers to know if they uncovered a late-round gem in Dixon -- or whether they stumbled onto another Omar Jacobs (the fifth-round pick in 2006 never made the team).

Making it all the more difficult for the Steelers to assess what they have in Dixon: He is still recovering from the major knee injury that ended his senior season.

The 6-3 1/2, 206-pounder will be limited in the minicamp practices that start Friday and run through Sunday. But Dixon, who had surgery on his left knee in December, said he is "ahead of schedule" in his rehabilitation.
The Steelers, meanwhile, felt good enough about the reports they got from their medical personnel regarding Dixon that they didn't hesitate to take him with the 156th pick of the draft.

Had Dixon not torn his ACL, he would have been selected much earlier. He is a gifted athlete and polished passer -- Dixon completed almost 68 percent of his passes last season -- and he had been one of the frontrunners for the Heisman before going down late in the season.
Dynamic Dixon intrigues Steelers - Pittsburgh Tribune-Review

The Jacobs analogy is way the hell off base. Dixon, prior to injury, was hands down the best athlete in that draft class including McFadden. Post injury who knows what he will turn into. The Raiders have embarked on a similiar hold and wait on a much closer analogy in this case with Bush who in his own right was one of if not the best athlete in his draft before injury.

When my Stillers took him I was pissed. I admit it. We needed a ton of other things besides a project. Then I thought we could get him onto the field at wr and thought "good idea, guys". The thought of another.....:shivvers: SLASH Experiment makes me want to kick puppies.

Seahawks speculation: RBBC and Branch not ready to go at Week 1

Quote:
.....apparently Holmgren said....(the) running game will be by committee, which means that Mo Morris will be on the roster, and he does not expect one back to ever get 25 carries in a game.
[More:]
Nate Burleson may not be punt returner next year if Burleson is a starting wide receiver. Holmgren did not say who the replacement would be. Rehab on Deion Branch going well but he does not expect him to be there at the beginning of the year.

Jags add veteran safety Prioleau to secondary
April 30, 2008
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- The Jacksonville Jaguars signed free agent safety Pierson Prioleau on Wednesday and waived quarterback Lester Ricard.

Prioleau, entering his 10th season, spent the last three years with the Washington Redskins. He played 15 games in 2007, starting four and finishing with 38 tackles. He has 353 tackles, 5½ sacks and one interception in 113 career games with San Francisco, Buffalo and Washington.

Prioleau, who will be reunited with former Redskins and current Jaguars defensive coordinator Gregg Williams, will give Jacksonville some much-needed depth at safety.

Ricard spent all of last season on the practice squad and became expendable when the team signed undrafted rookie Paul Smith of Tulsa on Sunday.

I dont know who this Richad or whatever guy is, but I need my tires rotated if hes available.

Moving on, I like the Paul Smith signing. I think you add a couple inches of height on this guy and he's a 3rd round pick. In any event, I remember this other guy who was too small for his position that plays for the Carolina Panthers. Some Steve Smith guy...
