Draft Needs - Team by Team Breakdown of all 32 NFL teams

NFC East

Dallas
1) CB – Newman and Henry are a fine combo and comprise one of the better units in the league, but the team has no nickel or dime depth behind them.
2) RB – You can argue til you’re blue in the face about whether or not Marion Barber is the full time answer. But the fact remains that he’s the only RB on the roster, so the team needs depth.
3) NT – Dallas was desperate enough at the all important 3-4 nose tackle position that they gave Tank Johnson a shot last year, and now Jason Ferguson is gone as well.
4) WR – It doesn’t look like Terry Glenn is going to come back from injury any time soon. Pat Crayton has developed well, but Tony Romo needs another target to start developing as TO ages.
5) S – Have Roy Williams and Ken Hamlin made it to the Pro Bowl before? Sure, but if you had a chance to watch the Cowboys last year, it’s clear that the team consistently got killed by the long ball.

NY Giants
1) S – Gibril Wilson wasn’t great, but he’s gone now and this unit is absolutely terrible and definitely the big need if there’s to be any shot of a title defense.
2) OLB – Kawika Mitchell is gone now, and Mathias Kiwanuka has never really made the transition from pass rusher to linebacker. Time to try something different.
3) CB – The story here is a secondary that really improved over this season and during the Super Bowl run, but they also dealt with a lot of injuries and lacked depth all season.
4) WR – Plaxico Burress played as well as any WR in the league this year when healthy and has a crazy rapport with Eli Manning, but he can’t do it alone, and the rest of the WRs are past their prime or not quite to it yet. And Plax could be gone at any moment too.
5) OL – The offensive line was amazing down the stretch and through the playoffs, but they’re not the most talented bunch in the league and lack some depth across the board.

Philadelphia

1) OLB – The linebackers on this team are awful, and none of them should be starting on a legitimate contender. The Eagles got by for years with washed up veterans, but it’s time for a youth movement.
2) ILB – See OLB.
3) WR – What else is new for the Eagles? Kevin Curtis was invisible outside of a few games, and Reggie Brown seems to come and go as well. This team still needs a big playmaker.
4) S – Brian Dawkins is still a star, but one that has been aging for some time. But strong safety looks like the weak link on this defense until further notice.
5) OL – The Eagles have one of the better lines in the league but could use an upgrade at guard and some depth across the board.

Washington
1) DE – Last season was much improved from the year before, but the line still doesn’t do much by way of a pass rush and there is very little depth either.
2) S – No need to rehash the terrible Sean Taylor story. Washington needs a new free safety.
3) DT – Ever heard of Anthony Montgomery? Me either. You simply can’t win a lot of games with average defensive tackles.
4) WR – Washington continues to trot out a bunch of Smurfs and hope they can create a real passing game, but it’s time for someone to admit that it’s not working.
5) OL – The Skins have a solid line at every position, but they’re a little old at every position along the line as well, and not very deep at all.

NFC North

Chicago
1) OL – Chicago had one of the best lines in football a couple of years ago, but they’re getting old now and need to infuse it with some youth.
2) QB – Sure the Bears resigned Rex Grossman and Kyle Orton, but does anyone really think either is the answer at this point? It’s time for a fresh start. Again.
3) DT – Tommee Harris is one of the best in the biz but can’t seem to stay healthy, and there’s not much else there. Brian Urlacher is only as good as the tackles in front of him, so having a pair of top DTs is key to making the defense work.
4) WR – The Bears signed Marty Booker and Brandon Lloyd this offseason to compete for both starting jobs. Any questions?
5) RB – Running back was a luxury a year ago before Thomas Jones got traded and Cedric Benson got hurt yet again. Adrian Peterson is a fine backup, but Benson doesn’t look like a real option at this point.

Detroit
1) OL – There are a few startable guys on this line, but overall it is just plain terrible. They can’t protect the QB and they’re even worse at opening up holes for the run game. It’s time for an overhaul.
2) RB – Kevin Jones doesn’t look like he’ll ever be 100% again, and the Lions are so desperate to find a RB that they actually resigned Tatum Bell after benching him most of last season. And he looks like the starter until something changes.
3) DL – The defensive line is just one of the many woes on this team. Now the best player, Shaun Rogers, is gone as well. Just another one of the many areas on the team that needs an overhaul.
4) ILB – Ted Lehman was never great as it was, and now he is gone. Just another hole on this team.
5) OLB – Ernie Sims is coming around on the weak side but the Lions could really use some improvement on the other side.

Green Bay
1) DT – Corey Williams was unexpectedly traded this offseason, a loss that will leave the line a little too weak and thin for a contender.
2) CB – Al Harris and Charles Woodson are the best duo out there but they’re not exactly young, and there’s also not a single corner behind them worth mentioning.
3) FB – The Packers haven’t found a good replacement for William Henderson, and this is a team that uses the traditional fullback as much as anyone.
4) OL – Green Bay’s line is one of the best in the business right now. The tackles are probably the single pair in the league, and the interior of the line is solid too, but the team needs some youth and depth.
5) QB – Maybe you have heard, Ol’ #4 has moved on. Aaron Rodgers deserves his fair shot, but the backup right now is some dude named Dalton Bell. The draft probably isn’t the place to help here, but a veteran backup would be good.

Minnesota
1) DE – Kenechi Udeze has disappointed and Erasmus James will probably never be healthy, so this is unquestionably the #1 need on the team. They need depth, and they need pass rush even more.
2) OL – The left side of the line is absolutely one of the best out there, particularly at run blocking, but the right side of the line could use some work.
3) QB – Tarvaris Jackson started to show some improvement this season, but it’s yet to be seen whether he is the answer or not.
4) WR – Bernard Berrian should help this unit out a lot, even if he may not be a true #1, and Sid Rice showed some signs of development as well. But there’s still no standout among the group.
5) S – Darren Sharper is many years past his prime and gives up as many plays as he makes at this point. It’s time to find someone young to groom.

Note: This is a 4 part series. The other half of the NFC will be out tomorrow, and then the AFC on Wednesday and Thursday with a full crib sheet to be posted on Friday for quick access.

Arrow Draft Needs - AFC South and AFC West

NFC South

Atlanta
1) QB – Right now Atlanta’s QB depth chart reads Chris Redman, Joey Harrington, DJ Shockley in some order. If they don’t spend one of their first two picks on a quarterback, it will be a travesty.
2) OL – Atlanta’s offensive line was a train wreck. Now Wayne Gandy is probably gone, and only LG Justin Blalock is much of a long term solution. This unit needs depth, and it needs much better starters.
3) DT – There is a lot of youth here and a long list of guys in the rotation, but nothing that will really excite anyone. A star could really free up someone like John Abraham on the pass rush.
4) S – Erik Coleman and Lawyer Milloy bring a lot of veteran leadership here, but it’s getting to be a bit too much if you know what I mean. Time to add some youth.
5) LB – This crew is actually quite good, but it lacks depth. And Keith Brooking still has a couple of good years in him but is on the downside of his career.

Carolina
1) DL – This is not the stud line it once was with Mike Rucker and Kris Jenkins gone. The Panthers need help at every position here in order to rebuild what was once its biggest strength.
2) OL – Jordan Gross is a fine tackle, but Travelle Wharton has moved inside. This team could use a franchise tackle in a big way.
3) QB – Carolina needed to find a future here several years ago, and they’ve paid the price for it as Jake Delhomme has struggled to stay healthy two years in a row.
4) S – The starters are okay here but there is no real playmaker here, so an upgrade would be helpful.
5) RB – DeShaun Foster is finally gone and it’s DeAngelo Williams’s time to shine. But he hasn’t exactly been a beacon of health, and there’s no real depth behind him.

New Orleans
1) DT – This is still a bad defense at its heart, and the DTs are the heart of any defense. Hollis Thomas is decent, but the team needs to try something new here.
2) OLB – Jon Vilma upgrades this linebacking unit in a hurry, but there are still a few spots to go. Dan Morgan is an intriguing signing, but they need at least one more either way.
3) OC – Jeff Faine is gone, and Jon Goodwin is nothing more than a career backup at best. This is a great young line, but a new center is imperative.
4) S – Roman Harper is the definition of a fill-in starter and needs to be replaced by a big time playmaker at strong safety.
5) QB – Drew Brees is a star QB, but he and his bionic shoulder have thrown over 1200 passes in the past two seasons and there’s no real depth there. It might not be too bad of an idea to find someone young to learn behind the master.

Tampa Bay
1) OT – The offensive line is improving a lot, especially in the interior, but there is still nothing that looks like a franchise tackle in sight.
2) WR – Michael Clayton has gone so far out of style at this point that 99% of America hears his name and thinks of George Clooney, and Ike Hilliard wasn’t really that great 10 years ago.
3) CB – Long time starter Brian Kelly is finally gone, and Ronde Barber can’t be too far behind at this point. Tampa needs a defensive youth movement.
4) DT – If it seems like the days of Warren Sapp were a long time ago, you are right. Tampa needs some fresh blood.
5) QB – I know what you’re thinking, and yes it does seem like the Bucs already have about 8 quarterbacks on the roster. But you know the old saying. Jake Plummer, Jeff Garcia, Brian Griese, and Luke McCown couldn’t combine all of their good qualities to make a decent QB at this point.

NFC West

Arizona
1) CB – Antrell Rolle has been moved permanently to free safety, so that makes a weak position even weaker. Neither Rod Hood nor Eric Green should be starting, so this is a need and a half.
2) DE – Bert Berry is terrific when healthy, but he hasn’t played more than 10 games in three seasons, and there’s no one on the other side. Pass rush, run stuffing, you name it – the Cardinals need it.
3) OT – The Cards took Levi Brown with the 5th pick in last year’s draft and he has done well, but Mike Gandy is nothing but a stopgap on the other side.
4) RB – Edgerrin James isn’t getting any younger. He’ll be 30 by opening day and has logged over 3000 carries in his career. Historically that signifies the end of a running back’s career, and JJ Arrington has disappointed as a backup plan.
5) LB – Karlos Dansby is a young star and the rest of the crew isn’t too bad, but it is a very thin group that needs depth and could use another top playmaker or pass rusher.

San Francisco
1) CB – Nate Clements is making the big bucks and doing a great job, but it’s a joke that Walt Harris is the other starting corner, and a bad joke at that.
2) NT – Coach Nolan has been trying to build a good 3-4 for a few years now, and they’ve yet to find a great big guy to clog up the middle.
3) QB – Alex Smith has been nothing short of a bust so far, but we’ll see how he does with a year under Mike Martz. Even so, it might be time to start thinking of something else.
4) IL – Larry Allen has finally hung up the cleats, and the 49ers have a few other young guys but could use a starting center and some depth.
5) S – There’s nothing wrong here, but nothing great here either. Mark Roman should probably be replaced before too long.

Seattle
1) TE – This position is so thin that Seattle tried to take a QB-turned-WR and turn him into a playmaker at TE. Maybe they need to think of a new solution.
2) WR – On the one side, DJ Hackett was never really healthy anyway. On the other hand, neither are the rest of Seattle’s receivers. It’s time to add someone new for Hasselbeck to throw to.
3) RB – Julius Jones is clearly a stopgap, and it looks like it’s inevitable at this point that Shaun Alexander will be let go by the season, if not sooner. It’s time to find the future.
4) S – Deon Grant and Brian Russell are nothing short of average. Gone are the days when Ken Hamlin and Michael Boulware were big time playmakers, and they need some juice back.
5) DE – Pat Kerney is a star but needs some help. Seattle has a great pass rush but can still use some improvement here.

St Louis
1) OL – What was once a major strength is now a weakness with Orlando Pace near the end of his career, and the interior line is a major weakness. No wonder Bulger and SJax can’t stay healthy.
2) DE – The defensive pass rush, or lack thereof, is simply atrocious. Leonard Little used to be good but is on the wrong side of his career.
3) CB – The young guys are starting to come around but they still can’t cover NFL level wide receivers. Tye Hill would be a better second corner, and Fakhir Brown would be an average nickel back.
4) QB – Marc Bulger continues to get hurt every single year. And when he does, the Rams completely fall apart because they haven’t had a decent backup since, well… Marc Bulger.
5) OLB – The Rams have tried for years to come up with speedy guys at outside linebacker, and it’s time to admit that it’s not working.

AFC starts tomorrow!

Draft Needs - AFC South and AFC West

AFC East

Buffalo
1) WR – Remember when Josh Reed was supposed to be a star? Well they never got him any help, and he’s no good. And if they don’t do something about their WRs soon, we’re going to be asking the same question about Lee Evans in a few years.
2) CB – The team has yet to really recover from the loss of Nate Clements. There are a bunch of young bodies but Terence McGee is the only real starter of the bunch, and he’s better returning kicks than covering folks.
3) TE – Robert Royal is a decent blocker, and that’s about the only good thing I can say about him. Buffalo is playing 10 on 11 when they use a tight end.
4) OL – The Bills have worked to improve their line over the last few years, but it still has a ways to go.
5) RB – Marshawn Lynch looks like the real deal but there is almost nothing behind him. Drafting another young guy on day 2 might not help, but a veteran could.

Miami
1) OT – Vernon Carey should be hiding at RT or even RG, not bolstering the line at OT. Until the line improves, nothing else on offense will be worth looking at.
2) CB – There’s a dude named Mike Lehan starting here, from the University of Minnesota five years ago. I’m a Gophers fan and had never heard of him before. That’s a very bad sign.
3) LB – Jason Taylor and Joey Porter are still both great as pass rushing 3-4 OLBs, but everyone knows one or both will be gone soon. At ILB they need help now.
4) QB – I personally think they need to give John Beck his fair shot for at least a year. Worst case scenario, you lose a lot of games with a bad team and get another high pick next season. But they need an answer here at some point.
5) WR – No one on their roster has ever caught 50 passes in one season, and no one here is good enough to think that will change this season. Honorable mention here to TE and S as well. What do you get a team that needs literally everything?

New England
1) LB – Inside or out, the team needs young playmakers here in a bad way. Bruschi and Vrabel still seem to make the big plays, but this unit wore down noticeably down the stretch.
2) CB – Asante Samuel is gone and has been replaced by washout Jason Webster. That’s 10 INTs last season for 11 INTs in an eight year career. Even the Pats can’t magically fix that.
3) TE – Ben Watson is great when healthy, but that seems to only happen about 5 or 6 times a year. This is a team that loves to use the TE, even two TEs at once, and they’re thin again. Don’t be surprised if they use another high pick here.
4) WR – It’s hard to complain about one of the best 1-2 WR punches in football, but there is not a lot of depth there. Randy Moss can’t be more than another year or two away from leaving, and this was his first healthy season in about four years.
5) QB – All of us saw more than we ever wanted to see in Matt Cassell and Matt Guitierrez in garbage time this season. Should Brady ever even miss a couple of games, this team is completely screwed.

NY Jets
1) FS – Not that Erik Coleman was great, but his absence leaves this position as the clear top need on the roster.
2) WR – Lav Coles had his contract reworked and will remain paired with Jerricho Cotchery for a very good duo. But neither of them can stay healthy all season, and there is less than nothing behind them.
3) TE – Chris Baker simply hasn’t made enough plays. This is an offense that needs to throw to its tight ends. Sure they signed Bubba Franks too, but has ever been anything but a goal line threat?
4) CB – If they play up to their potential, it is hard to top a young twosome of Darrelle Revis and Justin Miller. But both have shown lapses and there is little behind them.
5) QB – Yes they have Pennington and Clemens, but if you ask me, neither of them looks like much of a long term answer. I still don’t think Pennington makes it to the opening day roster.

AFC North

Baltimore
1) QB – Ok, admit it, at least part of you enjoyed Steve McNair’s great run a few years ago. But that is history, and that’s where his career belongs at this point. And I think we all know Kyle Boller has no future here.
2) OT – Jon Ogden could announce his retirement any second now, and that would leave the team with really no viable starting tackles. This line was once a strength but is missing its bookends.
3) CB – McAlister and Rolle has never been quite as great on the field as it looks on paper. Both of them are aging quickly and piling up injuries, and there’s nothing behind them either.
4) DL – The Ravens’ defensive line is still great right now but is getting older and doesn’t have much depth behind it.
5) RB – Whatchyou talkin bout, Willis? McGahee was great this year but isn’t exactly a beacon of health. Quick name another RB on the Ravens roster… you can’t.

Cincinnati
1) DL – This team needs a big run stuffer inside and they also need some pass rush in a big way. Justin Smith was their best d-lineman and his absence leaves very little leftover.
2) LB – The summary: there isn’t a backer on this roster that should be starting for a contender’s defense.
3) OG – Eric Steinbach is long gone, and Stacy Andrews is clearly going to replace Willie Anderson sometime soon. The interior of this line needs some work to restore that fierce run game.
4) S – Dexter Jackson is decent but doesn’t make many plays, and the team lost Madieu Williams to free agency, so they need some playmakers here.
5) RB – Rudi Johnson averaged a paltry 2.9 YPC last year. That is abysmal. Yes Kenny Watson is a nice backup and Kenny Irons has been hurt, but there’s reason for concern here for a team that surprisingly struggled to find offense at times last year.

Cleveland
1) CB – On a suddenly great young team, this is the clear weakness. Eric Wright showed flashes last year, but it was usually the flash of a receiver running past him for a score. And he’s the only viable top 3 corner on the roster.
2) CB – Two things. Yes, cornerback is THAT bad. And secondly, it was surprisingly difficult to find more than three needs on this team. What an amazing job the Browns have done the last couple of years!
3) DL – Talk about an overhaul here as the Browns went out and got both Corey Williams and Shaun Rogers to add two Pro Bowl studs to a paltry line. But they could still use some depth.
4) RB – Jamal Lewis had a great season but looks like a year by year stopgap. In a RB heavy class, this might be the time to find a future.
5) OLB – Kamerion Wimbley is a rising star, but Willie McGinest is running on fumes at this point. He’s a great mentor but would do his work better from the bench.

Pittsburgh
1) OL – The offensive line was always a quiet strength for the recent good Steeler teams, but it has slowly eroded away and the job may be complete now that Alan Faneca is gone to free agency. They need tackles on both sides really and another guard would be nice too. Yikes
2) WR – Hines Ward is a class act and has been a top WR in the league for a long time but doesn’t have much left. Santonio Holmes is coming into his own, but there’s no real depth here nor is there any size ever since Plax left.
3) CB – This team has a bunch of 2nd and 3rd cornerbacks. It makes for great depth but also makes it difficult to shut down that one guy when you really need to.
4) S – Consider me unconvinced that Ryan Clark is worth much as a starter opposite Troy Polamalu.
5) QB – Big Ben is the present and the future, but he is not one who likes to stay healthy for seasons at a time. Though I do find it wildly entertaining that the team signed Jared Zabransky from Boise State as a third stringer, a literal clone of Big Ben but without the talent.

Draft Needs - AFC South and AFC West

AFC South

Houston
1) OT – For the umpteenth season in a row, offensive line is the top priority in Houston. At least to all of us watching. I don’t know why management seems to think that guys like Ephraim Salaam and Eric Winston can bookend a contender’s line. They simply can’t.
2) OLB – DeMeco Ryans has turned into a stud inside but he needs plenty of help. The current starters on either side of him would be better off covering kicks.
3) RB – This position is full of a bunch of wash-ups for Houston. There’s definitely nothing long term even more than a year, and they don’t really look to have much this year either. Luckily it’s a deep RB draft, and they need to get one early.
4) S – The Texans definitely need a new free safety, and getting rid of CC Brown for a better playmaker at strong safety would be a nice idea at some point too.
5) CB / DT – No, these positions don’t exactly go together. At both places Houston has some very promising youth that could turn out well, but another talented player wouldn’t hurt. Houston has too many needs and not enough draft picks this year.

Indianapolis
1) DL – Mathis and Freeney struggled to get their usual pass rush last year, probably in large part due to the poor play by these tackles. They need DL bodies and talent.
2) OG – Indy has one of the best lines in the league, but it’s not because of the replaceable guards. An upgrade would be nice.
3) TE – Dallas Clark has really shined as a receiver and had a big year, but the team may not have money to sign him more than this year. Plus there’s no depth at all here for a team that often uses two or even three tight ends.
4) OLB – Freddie Keiaho showed flashes of brilliance last year but also seemed to disappear for games. They need some better consistency out of him and a new starter on the other side.
5) CB – The Colts make do pretty well with undersized and undertalented corners, like Hayden and Jackson, but the depth is very weak and not good enough for a playoff run.

Jacksonville
1) DT – The Jags finally cut ties with star tackle Marcus Stroud, so they need to find a new stud to line up inside next to John Henderson now.
2) DE – Pass rushing hasn’t been one of the Jaguars’ specialties, and that continues to be the case. It may get even harder without Stroud, so a pure pass rusher type might be just what the doctor ordered.
3) SS – Reggie Nelson looks like a star at free safety, but Gerald Sensabaugh on the other side has been average. Too often he goes for the big play and ends up creating it… for the other team.
4) OLB – There is nothing wrong with these backers other than that they are very forgetful. And by that I mean they don’t do anything too memorable and don’t make a lot of plays.
5) OL – The Jaguars were one of the hardest teams to find five real needs for, a true team that is complete at almost every position. The OL is great, really, just can use some depth like any other OL in the league.

Tennessee
1) DT – Eventually the team is going to have to make a decision about troublemaker Al Haynesworth, and they’ll probably need a replacement when they do.
2) ILB – The OLB combo of Bullock and Thornton is special, but there is no one to count on inside.
3) CB – The Titans have a bunch of 2nd and 3rd corner types. They need a headliner if Pacman Jones is really done here, and it looks like he is.
4) WR – This whole position is like one badly failed experiment. Yes, VY is making do with what they’ve got, but it’s so bad that they actually expect Mike Williams to contribute this year. Yes, that Mike Williams.
5) OL – It’s a half and half mix at offensive line. Mawae and Olson are still great but neither can have too many years left, while the bookend tackles are still young and learning.

AFC West

Denver
1) DT – Sam Adams was a better congressman and beer than a solution here, and this position is a mess that needs immediate addressing if the defense wants to be back near the top of the league again.
2) S – John Lynch is just plain old. He’s out of position now at free safety and needs to be replaced, and the team needs a new strong safety to boot.
3) OT – Matt Lepsis has retired and left behind him a pair of very unproven new starters. Not that a rookie will solve that problem, but he might provide some better talent to start with.
4) WR – Brandon Marshall looks like a superstar, but the rest of the crew now that Walker is gone and Smith has retired consists of a bunch of crappy slot receivers.
5) OLB – Hard to believe it with all the linebacking talent this team has had, but they finally need a couple of fresh bodies outside.

Kansas City
1) CB – Pat Surtain is old, Ty Law is gone, and no one else is worth mentioning. This area of the team is close to being shut down as a national disaster area.
2) OL – What was once the greatest strength of this team has simply fallen apart over the last few years due to age. The teams needs a massive overhaul now, outside of Brian Waters.
3) WR – Ok sure, Dwayne Bowe looks like a legitimate player, but name another receiver on that roster. And don’t try to get by with Eddie Kennison either. He had 13 catches all of last season and is no longer on the roster.
4) DL – Jared Allen is a great end, but there’s nothing to call home about the rest of this line. They need another DT to rotate for sure, and they just need more talent everywhere.
5) QB – It’s hard to believe a combo as bad as Croyle and Huard would not leave QB as a top priority, but this team is so full of holes that they may just have to get by with theis duo for one more season. Honorable mention here to DE, TE, S, and RB. Yikes.

Oakland
1) DT – Warren Sapp has retired, and the Raiders desperately need a mammoth space eater, a run stopper, and a pass rusher inside. And by that I mean they could use a pair of new tackles.
2) OT – Ok so Kwame Harris is at least doable as the starting LT, but he leaves much to be desired, and even that is better than the mess on the right side of the line.
3) DE – Derrick Burgess is an excellent pass rusher, and I know the team just opened up its wallet to go get Tommy Kelly, but everyone in the league is still scratching their heads at that one.
4) WR – I like Ron Curry, and I like Javon Walker too for that matter, but neither of them can ever seem to stay healthy, and there’s not even a speck of depth behind them.
5) LB – There are a bunch of young guys here with varying NFL success. A veteran presence would probably be more helpful, but some depth is needed.

San Diego
1) OT – Shane Olivea kind of fell apart this season and left a gaping hole at right tackle. This line is one of the best in the league but is only as good as its weakest link.
2) ILB – The Chargers haven’t really had a legitimate playmaker here since Junior Seau left several years ago. They need a difference maker or two.
3) S – Eric Weddle was a reach in the draft last year. He ended up doing decently as a starter but still isn’t great, and the team needs an upgrade at strong safety as well with Marlon McCree finally gone.
4) CB – Antonio Cromartie really broke out of nowhere this year to star, but Quentin Jammar is average as a second corner and there’s no nickel or dime back in sight.
5) DL – San Diego has the best starting defensive line in the league, but there’s almost no depth behind it, and the team struggled through some injuries last season.

Oh jeez, Carey was a disaster at RG. He's easily a top 10 RT, but is there honestly anybody in the draft available right now that's a better LT? Remember, the best tackle in the draft is called a poor man's Joe Thomas. Given that Carey's a pretty fair LT, you have to wonder if the first overall pick should be used to address a position that is marginal in the upgrade department (if any is available at all.)

2) CB – There’s a dude named Mike Lehan starting here, from the University of Minnesota five years ago. I’m a Gophers fan and had never heard of him before. That’s a very bad sign.
Lehan was actually serviceable last season, surprisingly enough. But, yeah, DB in general is a severe need.

3) LB – Jason Taylor and Joey Porter are still both great as pass rushing 3-4 OLBs, but everyone knows one or both will be gone soon. At ILB they need help now.
Agreed. Personally I think ILB is the biggest need Miami has right now, but unless they trade down into the early-mid 1st, there isn't an ILB worth taking in this draft.

4) QB – I personally think they need to give John Beck his fair shot for at least a year. Worst case scenario, you lose a lot of games with a bad team and get another high pick next season. But they need an answer here at some point.
No arguments.

5) WR – No one on their roster has ever caught 50 passes in one season, and no one here is good enough to think that will change this season. Honorable mention here to TE and S as well. What do you get a team that needs literally everything?
WR is a definite need, but then again so is TE. I'm just glad both positions are fairly deep this draft.

CB is their 2nd biggest need and I think DL might be the 3rd. Ogden may retire but they did pick up Gaither last year, who was raw but did show signs of being able to take over.

There is "no way" the Ravens will pass on Boston College QB Matt Ryan if he falls to No. 8 in the draft, according to ESPN's John Clayton.
Steve McNair's retirement has cost Baltimore even the possibility of smokescreening. If Ryan becomes a Raven, the team will likely look hard at cornerbacks at the start of the second round. With an aging roster, Clayton says the Ravens are "unlikely" to trade up in the first round. Apr. 17 - 10:15 pm et
