Sedrick Ellis - Draft Projection - NFL Impact

Sedrick Ellis

Defensive Tackle - USC
  • Height - 6'1"
  • Weight - 285
  • 40 Time - 4.95
2007 Stats:
  • 58 Tackles
  • 12.5 Tackles for loss
  • 8.5 Sacks
Draft Projection - First Round

NFL Impact
Ellis is very athletic and has a great first step. He sheds blockers well and is very instinctive. A high character guy who has a high motor. A bit undersized and may not be a great fit in all schemes. Will fit best utilizing a three-technique at the next level. He may have some problems holding his ground against larger blockers at the next level. Ellis has a great senior bowl his stock seems to be on the rise.

Kinda torn on Ellis..

He was very productive/disruptive at the college level. But at 285 he might need to bulk up to hold the inside vs. the NFL power running game, and at a 4.95 40 yd dash, he's probably a step too slow to move outside to D-End.

With all that said, I've always maintained with my posts that I put more stock in the "eyeball test" than measurables, and Ellis certainly passes that. He'll have a place for sure at the next level (optimally in a base 4-3 scheme), and will likely develop into a fine pro with a lengthy career. I just think some of the early to mid-1st round projections I've seen for him are a bit high due to his "tweener" status.

The speed is a MAJOR concern to me. Drop that to around 4.7 or so and we can talk. He does work his ass off though.....and Im pretty sure overall who ever gets this guy is going to be pretty happy with the end results.
