Billy Gillespie fired from Kentucky!!

WOW! This is stunning news. Can't believe UK moved so quickly to get rid of a guy who I think is a fabulous coach. He'll catch on immediately somewhere. I wonder who UK goes after now. Looks like it will be them and Arizona fighting for just about any name in the land.

Billy Gillispie out as coach of Kentucky Wildcats in second season - ESPN

should be interesting to see what will happen with jamie dixon in pitt. if they make the final four, dixon may have not much left to prove in pittsburgh. he was a former coach at northern arizona. maybe he will return back to arizona for the cats job, and that would seem to open the door for pitt to hire sean miller away from xavier in a match made from heaven.

this could really set off a chain of events!!

You are really surprised they fired Billy Gillespie?

I don't agree with him being fired but I'm surprised this didn't happen sooner. Like the night they lost to Notre Dame since they said thats when it would happen.

two years is hardly much of a shot. i think the guy is a great coach, and he has a pretty good crop of players there as well. they were a few unlucky shots away from making the tourney as a 10 seed and exiting early again, job safe and sound. i dont understand why you'd fire a guy like that.

From what I hear, it wasn't as much basketball related, as it was personality related. Guess Gillespie just wasn't good ol' boy enough. Which really kind of comes down to the A.D., and the hiring process they went through when they brought Gillespie in. He'll definitely land on his feet, but probably have to take a step back into a mid-major program.

Big rumor is Billy Donovan will resign as Florida coach and take the Kentucky job.

That's the rumor here in Tampa, Nikki. Everyone's saying Billy Donavan is going to head to UK.

They should have never got rid of Tubby IMO, Gillespie is not 1/2 the coach that Tubby was, so doesn't shock me at all that the program has only gone downward. Should be interesting to see what they do now. This makes is very obvious that they still expect to win and win fast....

Any chance that Billy could end up in Arizona?
