The thing that goes overlooked though is that HE can do this and more with the power of the name that Kentucky and the SEC brings.....I know SEC is not the best Basketball conference, but it does carry a lot more weight than C-USA. Yes, he built Memphis into a dynasty....he put them on the map! But is Memphis a dream destination? Is this one of the top college jobs in the country?? Tradition goes a long way, just look at Alabama football.....Kentucky carries that type of revernce in the history of college basketball. The program may be down, but it is still one of the most prestigious job in the country.

In the end, you may be right, he may not go.....but to say there is no way he goes...well that is just wishful thinking IMO.

Personally, I'd love for them to go to a Kentucky guy and bring in Travis Ford.....but UK seems to like making big splashes so who knows.

Nice disscussion, so far. I will add:

DeMarcus Cousins' recent decision to attend Memphis will give the Tigers a game-changing post player for the 2009-10 season. Cousins (Mobile, Ala./LeFlore) is the top center prospect in the 2009 class and the No. 4 prospect overall.
With Cousins, coach John Calipari's recruiting class, which also includes the nation's top prospect Xavier Henry (Oklahoma City/Putnam City) is among the most talented in the nation. Cousins' commitment serves as further proof of John Calipari's ability to recruit with the best of them.

Xavier Henry is a baller. I read about his signing with Memphis earlier this season:

His brother, CJ Henry is a freaking athlete. Instead of playing basketball out of high school in 2005, he signed with the New York Yankees. In 2008 he decided to enroll in Memphis and play there.

I think these may all be verbals at this point.

a little more:

In addition to Cousins and Henry, the Tigers have commitments from SG Nolan Dennis (Richland Hills, Texas) and junior-college forwards Will Coleman and Darnell Dodson -- both of Miami Dade College. The Tigers aren't done with their '09 class. Calipari is looking for a playmaking point guard to round it out. Top-10 prospect John Wall (Raleigh, N.C./Word of God) and Eric Bledsoe (Birmingham, Ala./Parker) are among the players Memphis is pursuing for that spot.

Wesburgh, there's a lot more to it to join a major conference than just throwing your hoops team in. They'd have to upgrade like every single sports facility to accomodate swimming, track & field, gymnastics, not to mention Football, etc, etc, etc. Pretty sure that in Gonzaga's case, they don't play Football for philosophical reasons. It would make a lot more sense, to me, for a team like Utah to join the Pac-10

Their basketball program can go SEC without any other sports programs going.

I don't see Notre Dame football in the Big East.

Wesburgh? LOL Thanks for the compliment, I'm sure that's how it was intended.
