Mark Martin To join Rick Hentrick full time in 2009

ESPN - Martin to replace Mears in full-time role with Hendrick Motorsports - Racing

Wow, so Mark Martin can't drive full time for Roush two years ago, a team he spent 19 years with and had ownership in one of the teams, yet two years later he can come back and drive full time for the Yankees of Nascar?? I've always had great respect for Mark Martin and what he has done in Nascar.....until today! The word sell-out comes to mind. I hope he realizes that in signing this deal with the devil, he is much farther away from a championship then he was when he walked away from Roush racing two years ago. He is nothing more then an after thought at Hentrick, 4th in line! He will not get the best of anything there, he gets the worse. In a sport where it seems like I dislike many more drivers then I actually like the gap just widened again today, take one off the like list and add one to the hate list! This signing simply makes me sick!

Dumping Kyle Busch over Mears, for Earnhardt, was a poor idea I guess.

I agree with you 100% Miller time. I have cheered for Mark since he was in the old Strohs car and this is just sad. I guess he had Favreitis eh )

I thought the reason why he left was to help his son but I guess that has changed. Not sure if the boy is still running.

this makes me a huge Mark Martin supporter!

This is a guy that tried to step down from NASCAR, but simply loved it too much. He is getting an opportunity with a great team, and I hope he can finally get a championship under his belt.

This man may not have a championship, and may never win one, but he races with class, something the young guns in the sport today should consider doing.

It was only going to be a part time contract, but he was convinced into a full season. I don't see sell-out here at all.

Is it possible that this sets up a Dale Earnhardt Jr. team partnered with HMS? Martin, Keselowski, and Jr.

Blah blah blah. He races with class??? WTF is that about.
If the young guns took his advice I don't think anyone would win any races. The reason Kyle has 6 wins under his belt and is leading the points is because he doesn't "race with class". That is where the true entertainment value in racing lies. Guys who want to win put on a much better show with their excitement and energy. Forget racing with class. It will only get you 35 wins in 711 starts.
Tony Stewart 32 win in 338 starts
Jimmie Jonhson 34 wins in 224 starts
Thats how you get it done!!

And that right there is what makes me less of a race fan now, as opposed to the last 30 years.

There is very little respect on the track today, because drivers don't have to earn it anymore. Kyle Busch drives like a friggin idiot (there is aggressive, and there is just downright stupid), and had he drove like this several years ago, Cale Yarborough, Junior Johnson, and many other drivers would knocked him into the infield (during the race), and pounded the hell out of him.

Dale raced fairly dirty, but he didn't race like an idiot. And he did what he did knowing he might have to stand face to face with someone if he wrecked them intentionally.

And this is why I like Tony Stewart. He has no issue with calling someone out for something stupid, much like the legends of NASCAR. But today, Tony Steward is a "problem". when it is people who acted like him who put this sport on the map.

So what is the difference as far as respect is concerned to driving like an idiot or tracking someone down and beating the hell outta them? If every driver today threw a temper tantrum every time they got wrecked there would be guys punching eachother after every race.

Then there is the Dale argument. I am NOT a fan of this guy. I never liked him. Move out of Dale's way or he'll move you outta the way. This is just as ridiculous as Kyle Busch racing recklessly. Many things Dale did were just as dangerous and reckless as what Kyle has done. Not to mention the lack of safety equipment 15 years ago as compared to now.
