| Baseball "Expert" Forum Leader | Marlins to get a new home: Marlins' ballpark vote passes | MLB.com: News This is a move that is long over-due, IMO. The Marlins have some great talent and the community needs to show them some support. Hopefully, they will play in front of people as opposed to empty seats now. |

| Bloggin' Outlaw Premium Member Forum Leader | Will The New York Mets reworked Bullpen Fly? Here are the facts ... In 2008, Johan Santana led the National League in innings pitched (234 1/3) and in ERA (2.53). Only Tim Lincecum tallied more strikeouts than Johan's 206. His WHIP was a minuscule 1.15. Yet when the postseason awards were handed out, the best that Santana could do was settle for third place in the Cy Young voting. Why was the pitching ace not given the accolades his performance deserved? Sadly, Santana won only 16 games. You don't need to hire a top-notch private investigator like the great Emerson Cod to figure out who got saddled with the blame for Santana's inability to reach 20 wins. With 29 blown saves, the Mets' bullpen ranked among the worst in the major leagues. Certainly the season-ending (and possibly career-ending) injury to closer Billy Wagner didn't help matters. In truth, Wagner had been far from perfect with seven blown saves of his own, though he did record 27 saves and was solid enough to earn a spot in the All-Star Game (in which he blew a save) and pitched into August before his elbow gave out. But the five-headed monster that I've dubbed "Pejo Aarscodua" (Pedro Feliciano, Joe Smith, Aaron Heilman, Scott Schoeneweis and Duaner Sanchez) failed miserably in nearly every opportunity to fill the void, recording only six saves while blowing 15 games with a combined ERA of 4.15. 2009 approaches and what does the Mets Bullpen look like Now? | Bloggin' Outlaw Premium Member Forum Leader | In a scandal-riddled spring at Washington Nationals camp, there is faint hope. The team signed Adam Dunn, traded for Scott Olsen and Josh Willingham and got Nick Johnson back healthy, at least for the moment. But while Jim Bowden has resigned as the franchise's general manager, his preference for quasi-clueless, exceedingly "toolsy" outfielders is still the thing that stands out most about the Nationals. And nobody embodies this better than Lastings Milledge and Elijah Dukes (though Wily Mo Pena, Corey Patterson and Willie Harris try hard). It would be a mistake to paint Milledge and Dukes with precisely the same brush. While Milledge did some knuckleheaded things in New York to alienate his Mets teammates, he's never been a particularly bad citizen. Meanwhile, Dukes has been arrested at least three times for battery and assault, has fathered at least five children with four women and has had a restraining order filed against him by his wife because he allegedly threatened to kill her. On the field, while Milledge was once known as a potential five-tool superstar, so far his talent has reared its head mainly on the base paths, while Dukes looks like more of a power prospect. But they've got a lot in common, too: Less than a year's worth of age separates them (Milledge turns 24 in April; Dukes turns 25 in June); they each were big-time prospects who flamed out for their original teams; and they each have considerably less rope than you might imagine such physically gifted kids might have on a team that doesn't figure to contend in 2009. Plus they both have cool names. Redemption and Resurrection to come? more... Lastings Milledge, Elijah Dukes still have some upside - ESPN |

| Bloggin' Outlaw Premium Member Forum Leader | Will Jeff Francoeur of The Atlanta Braves have a bounce-back season? Sometimes an off year in baseball is just unexplainable. It just hurts a bit more when this player is such a popular sleeper pick, as Atlanta Braves right fielder Jeff Francoeur was a year ago. | Bloggin' Outlaw Premium Member Forum Leader | Three notable hitters from the Atlanta high school scene emerged as top picks in the 2002 draft: Jeff Francoeur, Brian McCann and Jeremy Hermida. While Francoeur and especially McCann have had their moments as fantasy stars, Jeremy Hermida of The Florida Marlins is still waiting for his shot as a major factor in the baseball/fantasy world. That Hermida has still not truly broken out is intriguing, given that he was selected ahead of both Francoeur and McCann in that draft. Plus, Hermida's numbers and approach at the plate in the minors suggested he could do big things in the majors. He's not there yet, and now there's a question if he'll ever get there. more.... Will Jeremy Hermida live up to his potential with the Florida Marlins? - ESPN |
