DeSean Jackson - Draft Projection - NFL Impact

DeSean Jackson

Wide Receiver - California
  • Height - 6'0"
  • Weight - 172
  • 40 Time - 4.45
  • *Combine Time* 4.35
2007 Stats:
  • 65 receptions, 762 receiving yards
  • 6 Receiving TD's
Draft Projection - First Round

NFL Impact
DeSean Jackson is a multiple dimension threat and possibly the most dangerous return man in the draft. Often compared to Ted Ginn Jr from a year ago, Jackson appears to be a more polished WR coming out then Ginn was. Jackson has game changing abilities and is considered by many to be the best WR prospect in the draft. However, he lacks the ideal size of a true number one and was very inconsistent in college. Route running is an area where he could stand to improve on.

There are a lot of very effective smurfy WRs that suggest that the ideal size WR may not be as important a criteria as has been thought. Also there are some #2 WRs that put up great numbers too despite there being bigger targets on the team.

i think desean jackson is *wildly* overrated. it scares me to death seeing him projected to the vikings in many mocks. he will be a good but not great punt returner, a decent 3rd WR eventually, and would be a solid day two pick.

His route running is what makes me think he will take some time to adjust. I think eventually he can be a decent deep threat, but I don't think he has the overall receiving skills to be a top WR. I'm not as down on him as Bomb, but not buying him as a future top WR either.

I see him as a bust if he is taken early. He is not a first or even a 2nd round wr in my opinion. He probably has some pretty good potential as a return guy..but not Hester special.

Someone will take him too early. I would not touch him til 3rd or later.

His receiving skills scare me. He doesn't run routes very well, and I don't see the work ethic to learn.

he reminds me a lot of someone like devery henderson. fast and shifty just isnt enough to get it done in the NFL. even in college, he made like 5-7 big plays the entire season.

well that is pretty sick... and that just about seal him up as a first round bust pick, and probably a high one.

*crossing fingers, toes, and everything else that its not to the vikings*

kick returner potential here, #2-#3 wide receiver. I don't see it any better than that 5 years into this guys career.

His size will get him bounced off his routes at the line of scrimmage, and if he bulks up, he will slow down.

CBs have to give him five yards at the snap, yes? If so, he could do damage from a juke and slant. Seems like a Martz guy - San Fran in the second?

im just realizing, im sure all of us wouldve been saying the exact same things about steve smith (the carolina one) when he came out of college, and woudlve been completely wrong. then again, smith seems like the exception, not the norm.
