Allen officially a Yellow Jacket
It's official, former Louisville running Anthony Allen is transfering to Georgia Tech. Allen, a Jr., should fit in well at the "B-back" or fullback position for the Georgia Tech offense. Allen last year started out on a tear. In 5 games he had 98 carries for 578 yds and 6 TDs. Then injuries reduced his role to just some off the bench action. Probably won’t have any real impact this year, hard to say. The BBack position could have him with some nice numbers or not. Anthony Allen is the sort of guy that you should keep an eye on during this season. If he shows signs of life/production this year he might be a nice player to stash on your dynasty roster for next year, his senior year. Keep in mind that GT lost RB Tyler Evans to shoulder surgery last month.
In the keep an eye on the vacuum left behind thought process This move further opens the door for freshman running back Bilal Powell to make an impact back in Louisville.

TCU wide receiver Donald Massey will not play in 2008 due to academic issues. Massey's 2008 is over, and his career may be over as well. Not much impact here.
Oregon running back Jeremiah Johnson stated he is enjoying pain-free summer workouts. Johnson put up 54/344/5 Tds rushing and 7/ 98/1 Td receiving before getting injured against Wazzu. Johnson is attempting to come back from knee surgery, and his status impacts both his fantasy prospects and those of incoming JUCO stud LaGarrette Blount and Andre Crenshaw. This is worth keeping an eye on during camp.

This opens the door further for former Hutto, Texas star Jeremy Kerley. Kerley, a 5-10 185lb ATH that played QB for the Hippos is a WR at TCU, and looks to make an even bigger sophomore splash now.

Vols punter Colquitt pleads guilty to drunken driving
July 7, 2008
KNOXVILLE, Tenn. -- Tennessee punter Britton Colquitt will spend 24 hours picking up litter and lose his license for a year after he pleaded guilty Monday to drunken driving.

Colquitt, 23, was charged Feb. 17 with DUI and leaving the scene of an accident. He also received a suspended sentence of 11 months, 29 days, a $350 fine and court costs, a 24-hour detention in jail and must attend DUI school.

After Colquitt's arrest, Tennessee coach Phillip Fulmer suspended the second-team All-SEC punter for the first five games of his senior season and revoked his scholarship.

Officers who stopped Colquitt said he admitted to drinking and driving as well as hitting a parked car and a tree stump, causing more than $400 in damage.

Colquitt was also suspended from the team as an incoming freshman in 2003 after a series of alcohol-related incidents.

He told The Knoxville News Sentinel he's trying to learn from his mistakes and wanted to complete his punishment as quickly as possible.

Gonzalez sentenced on misdemeanor battery charge
July 8, 2008
AUBURN, Calif. -- A linebacker for San Jose State has been sentenced to 45 days in jail for punching a friend in the face three years ago.

Prosecutors say 20-year-old Ryne "Ryno" Gonzalez confronted Chad Cisneros in 2005 over a woman both were dating. Gonzalez walked into Cisneros' home in Penryn, east of Sacramento, when he saw his girlfriend's truck in the driveway.

Gonzalez, a 2005 graduate of Del Oro High School in Loomis, was sentenced Monday on a misdemeanor battery charge. A jury convicted him on March 26 after a two-day trial.

He was also ordered to pay $650 in fines.

It is unclear whether Gonzalez's scholarship at San Jose State will be affected.

Florida safeties Dorian Munroe and John Curtis will miss the upcoming season because of knee injuries.
Munroe tore the ACL in his right knee and will have season-ending surgery. The junior played in 26 games the last two years and was a key contributor on special teams. He led the Gators with 13 special teams tackles last season.
Curtis tore his left ACL for the third time. The senior already had two surgeries on that knee, and coach Urban Meyer said the latest injury could end his career.
Curtis played in 17 games the last three years, including 11 last season.
"I'm confident Dorian will battle through the rehabilitation process and come back a better football player," Meyer said. "John has suffered through multiple knee injuries, and the medical staff along with John and his family will need to evaluate his long-term future in football."

Following a weight room injury that originally had doctors fearing if he'd walk again, Oklahoma State wide receiver Artrell Woods has been cleared by doctors for football activity.

This is certainly great news that goes well beyond football. Woods will look to regain his speed this summer, and signs point to a healthy Woods emerging as Zac Robinson's number one target.
Auburn quarterback Chris Todd says his shoulder is fine, and he'll be good to go once camp opens.

Despite a shoulder that he says was well below 50% during spring drills, Todd still battled returner Kodi Burns to a dead heat. This position battle will be one to watch, as the Auburn offensive unit will look significantly different than it did a year ago, and it may be one for fantasy owners to raid.
JUCO WR Ryan Henry making some noise at Hawaii
Hawaii is heavy on JUCO transfers in 2008. We've focused a lot on incoming quarterbacks, however another position to watch is the WR spot where the Warriors are expected to bring as many as five JUCO WRs when all is said and done. One that has caught the eye of Honolulu Advertiser Stephen Tsai is Ryan Henry. No one covers the Warriors like Stephen, so we take note when he writes. The Warriors have a plenty of holes to fill at WR and a JUCO could step right in. As always, thanks to our Hawaii insider JR for the scoop.
UCLA quarterback Ben Olson has been cleared by doctors to resume play. The broken bones in his foot have healed, and now Olson lookes forward to working with Norm Chow and leading the UCLA offense.
Florida Atlantic tight end Jason Harmon will miss the 2008 season with a torn ACL.
One of the most highly anticipated JUCO running backs for the class of 2008 is one step closer to being cleared for action. Terence Kerns appears to have the grades and test scores in order to enroll at WVU. Kerns will await final word from the NCAA on his eligibility, but it seems to be a foregone conclusion he will be cleared to play.

This is big news for the Mountaineers. Kerns is a big bodied back that they desperately crave to go along side Noel Devine

South Florida Head Coach Jim Leavitt has no plans to curb QB Matt Grothe's running opportunities, despite obvious concerns that he becomes more susceptible to injury.
This is good news to fantasy owners as the willingness to tuck it and run is what makes Grothe a draft day option.
Utah quarterback Brian Johnson reports that his right shoulder feels great, and he'll be ready for the season.
North Carolina State tight end Anthony Hill is healthy and in great shape as he looks to return from his season-ending left knee injury suffered last summer.
Hill may be a forgotten man in some drafts. He could emerge as the ACC's top tight end.
Running back Jeff Smith is someone we've been watching for the past year and it looks like he is back for the Eagles after suffering from severe concussion symptoms in 2007.
Why have we been watching him? Smith's a burner and BC is in dire need of running backs. Head coach Jeff Jagodzinski says he is not sure where Smith will fit in the offense. Let me help with this one. Line him up behind Chris Crane, turn and hand-off.
Fresno quarterback Tom Brandstater says junior wide receiver Marlon Moore has really stood out during off-season workouts.
Moore will be looking to build upon a strong ending to his 2007 campaign, and the increased conditioning will go a long way.
In a recent ESPN interview,MO head coach Gary Pinkel stated; "WR Danario Alexander is ahead of schedule and we're looking at the first of October. With Danario, we'll see where he's at. He has a redshirt year. He'd like to play this year and we'd like him to play. But time will tell."
The "first of October" would see him playing right at the start of Big 12 play. However the continued talk of a possible redshirt is not encouraging news.
It's official, top wide receiver recruit DeAndre Brown has been ruled eligible by the NCAA.
This is big news for Southern Miss and fantasy owners. As mentioned previously, Brown is our top rated incoming freshman prospect regardless of position

Purdue wide receiver Desmond Tardy will be ready to start the season following injury (shoulder) woes in 2007.
Purdue has little experienced WR talent returning alongside Greg Orton, so Tardy will have a shot to make an impact.
OKLA coach Bob Stoops appears pleased with RB DeMarco Murray's rehab from his knee injury.
A healthy Murray may be the nation's best fantasy back.
Florida Head Coach Urban Meyer says running back Chris Rainey "will be a big part of the offense."
Fresh off hearing rumors of Rainey's head-to-head sprint victory over incoming flyer Jeff Demps, Meyer's comments add fuel to the Chris Rainey fire. Maybe Demps was a little tired after running in the Olympic 100m Sprint tryouts? muddies the waters some at RB
Upperclass Tide players are very impressed with incoming wide receiver Julio Jones.
Jones is going to be one of those rare freshman that makes an immediate impact. He should be a high pick, especially in keeper leagues.
Oregon coach declares that " RB Jeremiah Johnson is totally healthy" after tearing an ACL against Washington State in 2007.
Bellotti goes on to insinuate that JUCO RB LeGarrette Blount and Johnson both bring something to the table and will see time this year.
Alright we've made a lot of the Blount this fall. However we are not immune to Johnson's talent (which is immense). We have, however been leery of a running back coming off a severe knee injury. Especially a back such as Johnson that relies on speed and cut-back ability. If Johnson is as healthy as recent reports, this is one to play close attention to when summer camp opens next week.

Garcia returning to Gamecocks from suspension

COLUMBIA, S.C. -- South Carolina will have redshirt freshman quarterback Stephen Garcia back for the start of practice.

The school says Garcia will be at practice Friday after being approved for early reinstatement. He had been suspended by the university from all activities until Aug. 15.

The Gamecocks begin preseason practice Friday night.

Garcia was suspended in March after he was ticketed for underage drinking. It was his third run-in with authorities since arriving on campus in January 2007.

Garcia thanked university officials for his chance to continue with the team. His statement said he would not speak to the media until he began playing in real games at South Carolina.
