Torry Holt

I too love Fitz...based on some previous stat analysis he was the favorite to wr to 'breakout' last year, which he obviously did.
Due respect Mike but if Edge is to bring more emphasis to run, predicting 110 recs is alot. Cards were first in pass att/comps/yds but dead last in all rushing categories (att/yds/ypg/tds).
If Edge can be difference of even getting them to say even 20th, the pass atts/comps/yds will come way down.
I agree he'll seperate himself from Boldin...but not enough to offset the decreased pass atts/comps/yds (and some may be surprised as Boldin has been overshadowed by Fitz this last year but Anquan only had 1 fewer rec and 7 less yds than Fitz...major difference was the tds: Anquan 7, Fitz 10)

What's to say about Holt? top 6 past 3 years, 5th, 6th, 2nd from 05-03 with some gaudy numbers:
| 1999 ram | 16 | 3 25 8.3 0 | 52 788 15.2 6 |
| 2000 ram | 16 | 2 7 3.5 0 | 82 1635 19.9 6 |
| 2001 ram | 16 | 2 0 0.0 0 | 81 1363 16.8 7 |
| 2002ram | 16 | 2 18 9.0 0 | 91 1302 14.3 4 |
|
2003ram | 16 | 1 5 5.0 0 | 117 1696 14.5 12 |
|
2004ram | 16 | 0 0 0.0 0 | 94 1372 14.6 10 |
|
2005ram | 14 | 1 2 2.0 0 | 102 1331 13.0 9 |
+----------+-----+--------------------------+-------------------------

Look at the numbers in bold. particularly '05 with 102/1331/9...in just 14 games.
Yes, younger wrs 'coming up' with Rams but simply put he is far and away the best option at wideout, with the rest being just good enough to keep pressure off him.
Also suppose to be a bit more emphasis on run with Rams but if you look at his stats earlier on, even if he comes down to the 85-90 range he can still put up the yds.

I am giving those receptions to Fitzgerald, with the feeling that he will be the clear #1 this year, and Boldin's receptions will drop.

to my pt about emphasis on run will decrease passing stats (not riding Mike, honestly trying to add insight )...

I looked at some of the lower rushing teams from '04 that showed signficant improvement in '05:

CAR '04
12th pass comps 22nd rush atts
11th pass atts 28th rush yds

CAR '05
27th pass comps 10th rush atts
28th pass atts 19th rush yds

Difference of 41 less comps, 86 less atts, 400 less yds

SF '04
10th pass comps 24th rush atts
7th pass atts 30th rush yds

SF '05
32 pass comps 21st rush atts
31 pass atts 17th rush yds

Difference of 120 less comps, 170 less atts, 1300 less yds

Admittedly SF is kind of aberration with change in coaching staff, Smith's rookie year, but definitely see CAR as a possible legit comparison.

By all means, rip my analysis to shreads on this stuff. The more insight we get in these "close calls" the better we will all be prepared for our drafts. I have alreadhy seen quite a few comments that have made me think a little harder about my initial evaluations of these players.

Just keep bringing the opinions (that goes for everybody )

I think you wil get better value with Bolden, as he was better statistically when both he and Fitz played.

I go with Holt here

Great to see ya around man, always been one of my favorite for some NFC East insight, and given the homerism of some of the staff here on the NFC you will fit right in here. Hope ya make a habit of stopping bye.

In a close one, Fitz takes it 7-6. Should be interesting to see how opinions on this one shift as the season draws near.

I'll take Holt only cause Arizona has 2 go-to guys....those things have a funny way of flip-flopping from year to year. Fitz could have a relatively down year while Boldin lights it up and the opposite could happen next year....either way I prefer a clear #1 guy if their both still on the board. Martz may be gone....but Scott Linehan is a heck of an offensive coordinator in his own right. In many ways...I prefer his system and I'm gonna miss him in Miami this year. I look for Holt to put up huge numbers again. You can't go wrong with either of these guys though.

One more thing....the QB situation is better in St. Louis. If the Cards struggle and Denny decides to bring in the glamour boy, both Fitz and Boldin could see a drop in production. I don't care how "NFL ready" he is....rookie QB's struggle, there's no way around it. Warner is also gonna be susceptible to injury due to all the hits he's gonna take due to that O-Line.
