Donate | ESPN's Trent Dilfer reporting Anderson has been benched in favor of Quinn Quote: |
Browns coach Romeo Crennel didn’t exactly give QB Derek Anderson a vote of confidence during Monday’s press conference.
When asked if Anderson was still Crennel’s starting quarterback, the Browns coach replied, “Yes, as of right now.”
Anderson has struggled to follow up on a strong first season as a starter in the NFL, one after which the Browns rewarded the quarterback with a three-year, $24 million contract, including $14.5 million in guarantees.
| | I'm just wondering why it took this long.

If the Steelers win tonight, the Browns will be 3 full games back. Going into yesterday's game, the Browns had a chance to be only 1 game out in the division with a potential Steelers loss tonight. That scenario would have them very much in the division race.
Crennell just seems too reactive, rather than proactive, meaning I don't think he has the stones to make a quarterback change until he is convinced the Browns can't make the playoffs. 3-5 with a Steelers win pretty much puts them there because any wildcard spots are likely coming out of the East and/or South, though the Ravens appear to be trying to make a case for one as well.
If Crennell plays this right, he can keep his job while missing the playoffs. Management gave Anderson the contract, showing faith in him. Crennell is giving him every opportunity to fail. If Quinn comes in during the 2nd half of the season and sparks this team to a good finish, Crennell gets another year. It's all about trying to save his job at this point. |

Ride Schaub through Brees' bye week, sell him high (relatively speaking) and pick up Quinn with a low ww pick. Start Brees the rest of the year and have Quinn as a cheap keeper for next year.
INSTEAD, I've gotta throw Schaub away for nothing and scurry to pick up Quinn with a high ww pick in a QB depleted league.
I've had Quinn in my cross hairs since the beginning of the season but not necessarily to play this year.
I don't consider him the best choice for this year. |

Until they solidify this wr core, and give whoever is at Qb some tools, it won't matter who the Qb is. So I think Brady won't look real great either. |

Anderson had previous starting history, so alot less nerves and decision issues. Brady will be coming in very, very green. |
