Jahvid Best; signed, sealed, and delivered

rotoworld,
Lions signed rookie RB Jahvid Best, the No. 30 overall pick, to a multi-year contract.

Best is essentially ticketed for every-down back duties in what should be a vastly improved Lions offense. Though his Average Draft Position is on the rise, we still like Best as a mid-to-late fourth-round value pick -- particularly in PPR leagues. He's not going to see many eight-man fronts, and Best's sub-4.3 speed will be accentuated on domed Ford Field's turf.

I was jsut about to pull the trigger on him then remebered the fluke horrible concussion from last season, and it scared me off. He got paid, now he will definitly want to give it a game try. I just don't think he is physically up to what they want out of him.

You're correct, it was a fluke injury. That's not going to scare me from pulling the trigger on him.

It wasn't your run of the mill concussion. It was as severe one as you can have.

I was not aware of this, please explain.

Edit: After reading the only two articles I could find on the subject, niether one mentions the severity of the concusion. Maybe it was "run of the mill", but it was also his second one, which scares me off a little because of the way the NFL teams are paying such close attention to them and deservedly so.

What is your source for the severity of tha last one?

I have read some articles describing the various Grades/ severity of concussions. But I must admit I don't have any info on the exact severity of Best's concussion. So let's get to what I do know. Best's concussion came last year during Cals Pac -10 championship run. It caused him to miss the final 4 games of the season. This didn't seem to bother the Lions any as they did move up in the draft to get Best in the first round rather than wait until their second round pick.

Detroit free press:

Best, 5-foot-10 and 199 pounds, ran for 867 yards and 12 touchdowns last season before he was knocked out with a concussion on Nov. 7. He missed the final four games.
He ran for 2,668 yards and 29 touchdowns in his three years at Cal.
