-- Matt Jones Arrested for Possession of Controlled Substance --
Thu Jul 10, 2008 --from FFMastermind.com
FirstCoastNews.com reports Jacksonville Jaguars WR Matt Jones was arrested early this morning in Washington County, Arkansas for possession of a controlled substance. According to the Washington County Detention Center's website, the former University of Arkansas standout was booked at 4:11 AM today. Jones is entering his 4th season with the Jaguars. He was the 21st overall pick in the 2005 NFL Draft. Since making the transition from college quarterback to NFL wide receiver, Jones' career in Jacksonville has mostly been a disappointment

Most of the stuff I had read about Jags camp made it sound like Matt Jones might not make the cut this year. This should speed up that prognosis as he probably will be gone sooner than that. I thought that Jones might be a guy that could flourish in an new environment but that now seems unlikely as he probably won't be picked up by anybody.

I have been a Reggie Williams guy going into this season, and all this does is reinforce it. He and Garrard found something last year, and I feel they expand on it.

I agree, I think Reggie Williams did make that step last year. Yet, it has gone virtually unappreciated in fantasy circles. He has a solid QB going for him and should be one you should keep your eye on this year.

I have drafted Matt Jones a couple times.

Then I watch him play and say to myself, "Good gawd! Is he high?"

Thanks for finally answering that question for me.

No wonder a 6'5" WR with 4.3 speed hasn't panned out to much in the NFL. He is an unmotivated coke head.

What is he doing getting high in his car? Isn't that what football players have mansions for? Sheesh...

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP)—Jacksonville Jaguars wide receiver Matt Jones faces a felony drug charge in his former college town after police say he was inside a car cutting up cocaine with a credit card.

The 25-year-old Jones and two others were arrested early Thursday. A police report said officers approached the car and an officer drew his handgun after Jones did not immediately show his hands.

Police said they searched the vehicle and found a plastic bag filled with a white substance that tested positive for cocaine and a jar with possible marijuana residue.

Jared Hicks and Benjamin Cook were also arrested on misdemeanor drug charges.

Jones was being held on $2,500 bond at the Washington County jail on a charge of felony possession of a controlled substance. His arraignment was set for Aug. 11, two days after Jacksonville’s preseason opener against Atlanta.

Jaguars owner Wayne Weaver said he was waiting to learn details of the case.

“We’re trying to investigate that now,” Weaver said. “We don’t have all the facts. We will comment on that once we have all the facts.”

Jones, a star quarterback at Arkansas and a first-round pick in 2005, failed to develop into the go-to receiver Jacksonville thought he could be.

Last season, coach Jack Del Rio became increasingly frustrated with Jones’ demeanor and work ethic, making him inactive for three games. In the offseason, the Jaguars signed free agent Jerry Porter and traded for former first-round pick Troy Williamson.

This guy had a little to much in his car and could be in deep trouble.

When I first saw the headline that Jones was cutting coke I thought he was dealing.

Turns out he was just chopping up some Booger Sugar with some friends and not stepping on a fresh shipment.

The thing I don't get is why not get a hotel room and some hookers?

Also, hard to believe anything above a gram has the potential to be considered possession with intent to deliver.

Society in general isn't as accepting as you are of drugs. Considering the amount of federal time you can get for so many "minor" things I am surprised your shocked at all.
