Niners TE Davis out four weeks; Gore ‘all right’

Gore is expected to be in the 49ers’ lineup Oct. 1 at Kansas City despite bruised ribs that sidelined him in the third quarter of their loss to Philadelphia. Davis, the sixth overall pick in the draft, will be out four weeks with a broken bone in his right leg.

Rookie running back Michael Robinson also will get significant playing time for the 49ers after scoring two touchdowns against the Eagles. Coach Mike Nolan said Robinson might replace Gore as the 49ers’ short-yardage back after Gore’s second successive game with a goal-line fumble.

Eric Johnson gets to prove he wasn't a fluke who gets injured too much to play. I think he'll accel while Davis is out, though it's unfortunate that the young one was hurt.

Good pickup right there with EJ. I like Alex Smith too, so he's worth something.
