This guy is saying pretty much what I said from the beginning when this happened.

Everyone can claim that the Patriots weren't doing anything really bad, but the fact of the matter is, we don't know what all they were doing (possibly beyond videotaping), because everything the team had was destroyed.

When you factor in how close Goodell and Kraft are, it becomes a very legitimate concern.

I am not sure what else could be on those tapes. The only thing I could think of would be evidence of a bribe or something, possibly involving Goodell.

Any chance you could share your thoughts on what you think they were possibly doing?

The only issue I have with this is the timing. Would waiting 5 more days change anything?

All you have to do is go back to the original discussions on this. I threw a fit as soon as Goodell destroyed all the evidence and called the situation "over".

The evidence never should have been destroyed like that, not with one person, who happens to have a close relationship with Kraft, being the one that destroyed everything.

As soon as that happened, the first thing that went into my head was the idea that there was more going on than the simple videotaping that has been discussed, and this was the easy way to sweep it all under the carpet.

Destroy everything so nobody can ever come back and request to see exactly what went on, slap a fine on the team, and be done with it. No way Goodell's buddy can get into any more trouble down the road.

Maybe it was exactly what the Patriots said they had, and nothing more. Problem is, the only people that know for sure is the Patriots organization and Goodell now. It stinks of a cover up.

I think the timing was bad as well, but rather than waiting 5 more days, I think it was bad in that this didn't happen much, much sooner.

Agreed.

It's pretty baffling to me that all the evidence of cheating was DESTROYED. There doesn't seem to be any legitimate explanation for this since it was the property of the NFL. At the very least the tapes should be studied to understand how the cheating occurred so as to better identify/prevent future cheating.

People can try to defend the Patriots however they like, but as an Eagles fan whose life-long goal it is to see his team win a Super Bowl you cant convince me to not be upset about this. They destroyed all the evidence of cheating from the Super Bowls? We'll never know exactly what they were doing? Why?! Something doesn't smell right.

Exactly what I know they will one day find out. There hasn't been fair play at all.

Agreed.

But one thing I disagree about is the content of the evidence destroyed. Yes, we'll never know for sure now that it's gone, but I did see the video that FOX showed of it (the camera panning from the 3 coordinators signaling plays then to the scoreboard for down/distance) and if there was something worse FOX would have shown it. That's just the way the media works these days IMO.

What I am talking about is the fact that we don't know what the team turned over to Goodell, and neither does Fox. I would like to know what got destroyed beyond what we know about, if anything.

The letter from the senator was actually sent back in November, the league finally got around to responding to it now, according to ESPN today. So it really isn't the senator's fault for bringing this up now. I have no idea why the league decided to leak the letter and open this all up right before the Superbowl. That makes no sense to me at all. But neither does the way this whole situation was handled.

That is an interesting note, considering how everyone is so quick to bash the senator. Funny that it was the league that actually chose to air this laundry now.

Yeah, Trey Wingo made the comment you think the league would notice a letter with the return address being a senator and want to act on that quickly. But maybe they have been working angles of this case knowing they were going to be called into the principal's office.
