Atlanta interested in Calvin Johnson?

Since Detroit would like to trade the #2 overall pick to acquire more picks and draft for more pressing needs on defense, I think they should be talking to Atlanta for a possible deal. Petrino says he wants Vick to throw more, run less. Horn, Jenkins, Finneran, and White are their WR's right now. They can't be thrilled with this group. They now have the 8th overall pick, plus the 7th and 12th selections in round 2. They must be salivating over Johnson who displayed is awesome skills in their own back yard at Georgia Tech. Dropping to 8th would allow Detroit to draft one of the defensive players they really like.

I also view Miami as a possible trade partner if they like Quinn and Russell, but Atlanta seems more likely if Oakland takes Russell.

Anyone see this possibly happening, or is it just wishful thinking on my part?

Anyone trading to #2 specifically for Calvin would be running a huge risk that Oakland doesn't take him first overall. This draft is incredibly deep at WR so with one of those 2nd rounders Atlanta could still get a stud such as Meachem (if he falls a bit) or Sidney Rice out of SC. I think a more likely trade partner would be someone that's enamored with either Russell OR Quinn since Cleveland's lurking there at #3 to possibly snag one or the other.

This is yet another link in the chain reaction that was set off when Schaub went to Houston and Carr was released.
Where he signs now can completely change the complexion of the first half of this draft.
Every team we've heard linked to Russell or Quinn thus far has to be considered a possible suitor for Carr, which would change that team's draft board considerably.

Calvin Johnson will go to the Bucs, they owe me that much after breaking my heart last season.

I don't see this as a very probable scenario, but let's not forget Cleveland only has one decent WR, and now Winslow's probably missing the entire season.....

Anyone care to guess the chances of Detroit being able trade down. 50/50? Better, worse? No Millen jokes, please.

If the Raiders were to announce they are drafting JaMarcus Russell, I say the percentage goes to 90%. Too many leaks involving teams wanting to move up and take Calvin Johnson if he is available.

That said, I just feel that Johnson will be a Raider, and if that is announced, then it becomes very difficult for the Lions to make a deal. I doubt any team will want to trade up to take anything else that is available.

i think detroit may be able to trade down if they for sure want to do it, i just that they probably wont get a huge draft pick windfall. still, at this point with as much as detroit needs, even dropping down for a teams high 1st and high 2nd is pretty good at this point.

calvin johnson is definitely a guy they need to hope thats there. i think they will get the biggest price tag for him. i think atlanta should definitely trade their #1 and #2 for him, or both #2s if needed. wouldnt you trade the #10 pick in the draft and matt schaub for calvin johnson? i sure as heck would. id love to see minnesota moving up, but you know detroit wont do that. i could see arizona trading #1 and something to move up and snag joe thomas. and i could also see tampa trading their #1 and #3 to move up those two spots just to make sure they get either calvin johnson or joe thomas, whichever they prefer. lots of options for the team, esp if oakland does take russell or quinn.

Yeah, that seems like what I am expecting to happen also, unfortunately. If the Raiders take Johnson and Detroit can not find a trading partner, they better take Joe Thomas (and hope he does not turn out like Robert Gallery did for Oakland) or Gaines Adams. A pass rushing DE is a bigger need for them IMO.

Russell intrigues me and I am not sold on Quinn, but Kitna did a good job of tutoring Palmer. Not sure how high they are on McCown or Orlovsky. How much credit should Martz get for the development of Warner and Bulger? They have shown a lot of interest in Stanton and could get him in the 2nd.

This is the main reason why I took him in the mock. Also made it more interesting to see what the following teams would do. Apology to Da Bomb for being so "sensitive" about his comment earlier.

The Lions almost converted McCown to receiver last year, not sure if it is because they don't like him as a quarterback, or if it is just their obsession with having 2,000 receivers on the roster.

Orlovsky seems to me like one of those guys that are soon to be out of the league. He has been on the roster this long, and hasn't seen any sign of ever starting. Then again, the same could be said about Tony Romo, then next thing we know he is being groomed last offseason to be the future starter. Really hard to get a good feel for where he stands with the team.

The Broncos were talking to The Lions about moving up but ended it as they thought Detroit was asking too much. But the top part of the draft could go many different directions at this point.

Tom Kowalski, the Lions beat writer for Michigan Live reports that although Detroit wants to trade down, if that can't be done, then they will take WR Calvin Johnson with the #2 pick.

That sounds like a story purposely leaked by the team to raise more teams interest in moving up to #2. Good move by the team if this is the case.
