Larry Johnson to sit out for a new deal

As posted in the News Blog, Larry Johnson doesn't feel like he is getting enough money, and wants LT money. The Chiefs feel like he should play out his contract.

Any thoughts on where this will end up?

New deal for LJ? Will LJ cave and play? Possible compromise in the middle somewhere?

With the Chiefs seemingly not too interested in Larry Johnson being part of their future, it makes me think he has two choices. Shut up and play, or sit out a few games and go into free agency with a limited amount of games to earn his money from.

Draft with caution

Sounds like KC wants to work that Mule into the ground and then send him to the glue factory, instead of taking care of thier meal ticket. RR

I think the Chiefs wouldn't have been trying to move him, had it not been for the fact he is a whiny baby about everything. If you complain as much as he does publicly, just imagine what probably goes on behind the scenes in the lockerroom.

Got to say, if I was LJ I'd be bitching too.....they run him into the ground then refuse to pay him based on his level of production??? Doesn't sound like an organization I would want to work for.

Not that I am disagreeing with you...but I am shocked here.

you of all people have said players should be able to do this, since teams can cut them with no guarantee as well.

Fact is he is one of the top producing backs out there, and isn't even in the top 10 in pay.

I think he has more leverage than KC though. Last I heard they really want Croyle to start.....he will get killed if the best they can offer at rb is Bennett.

Sign him..or trade him and get what you need to help the young Qb.

I am not saying he shouldn't be able to do this. All I am saying is that the fact he complains so much is probably factoring into the team not wanting to extend him. I "fully" support him going after the money.

Stats or no stats, a guy that complains publicly like this is very likely being a disruption in the lockerroom.

Don't the chiefs have a hostory of lowballing players? I seem to have that impression for some reason.

I don't know what he's going to do. But I wish I had some indication from someone. I have to announce my keeper player on July 31, 2007, and I only get to keep one. My choices are narrowed down to LJ and Lawrence Maroney. I'd really like to keep LJ, but I don't know what he's going to do. Will he sit out for the year, or just a few games or will he play anyways, and will all this crap get in his head? I guess we'll know a little more when training camp starts. Does anyone know when the Chiefs camp starts ? This sucks. Last year my keeper was Domanique Davis, we all know what happened there, and now a contraversy with LJ. Maybe I should just hang on to him, and draft 3 RB's for my first three picks in the draft. Would that make sense, if I did'nt really know what he was doing by July 31 ???? Can anyone make a suggestion, or have any gut feelings with what's going to happen ?? Little help please.......

He won't sit out for the year. At the most, he would sit 10 games so he can have this year count as a season toward his contract. Otherwise, he is back in the same position next year with the Chiefs.

The Chiefs have a ton of leverage here. First, they are somewhat rebuilding with a new quarterback, and in the process of working toward rebuilding the offensive line. Second, they have Johnson under contract, so he has to play at some point this season in order to become a free agent, and if he sits most of the season, it could very well reduce his market value in 2008.

Right now, I would say don't make any decision, considering your choices are between a guy that is threatening a camp holdout, and a guy that is coming back from an injury. Give it a few days, as you have some time to watch the news on these guys.

If I had to make a choice today, I would go with Johnson.

Keeping LJ

I have LJ in my local keeper league, and plan to keep him.
In my oppinion, and thats all it is, the best thing for LJ, not the fans, would be to hold out. But only he first part of the year. If he came back with less then 10 games I believe he could still get a 1000 yards and 10+ TD's. That would cover his contract and make him an unrestricted free agent. Barring any unforseen problems, next year he will become the biggest free agent the market has ever seen.
For the fans, the best thing would be for LJ to play a full year, make the yards and score the TD's. Worry about next year, next year. RR
