| Outlaw | Brandon Marshall Brandon Marshall: (Quad) Placed on PUP List - NFL - Yahoo! Sports a guy who was on a LOT of sleeper lists. i think this has to be a blow for him. even if he gets the starting job, he is going to miss a lot of time. so the question is two fold: How does this effect his value in a 1 year league? and 2) how does this effect his value in a Dynasty league. obviously, his skills are hard to ignore, and i just wonder if now is a good time to target him in a dynasty. i also had a 14 team 1 year league draft coming up, and like i said, he's on a lot of sleeper lists, including mine, but would it be better to pass on him now and grab say a Meachem or Jarrett or Ginn JR instead? |

| Bloggin' Outlaw Premium Member Forum Leader | Nice find, Vicious_Machine, good research. First of all lets not panic, rotowire has read alot into this but let's take a relaxed look at this. As camp starts players take a physical the day before the first practice. If they don't pass the Physical they are PUPed. Now today is saturday and the Broncos first preactice is tomorrow (sunday) At this point it just means he didn't pass the initial physical and can't practice tommorrow (sunday) He will be given another Physical tomorrow for Mondays practice. Right now there are probably 90 or more PUPed players varying wildly in number day by day depending on what date camp started. Alot of players don't get on the field the first day. Kellen Winslow for one was PUPed the first day. The next day he passed his physical and was on the field practicing. Now all the camps are starting up right now with a bunch of PUPed players for the moment. Now by mid week the # of PUPs will probably be down to 40-50, acouple for each team. Now if Brandon Marshall is still PUPed by Thrusday then raise an eyebrow and start revising you cheatsheets but for now relax a bit. Being PUPed on the first day of practice is not a rare occurance. |

| Captain Jarhead Premium Member | PUP could be for as little as a weight strain or stiffness from working out too hard to fast. Coach is right if he's on PUP after a week then it's time to find out why. RR |

| Outlaw | wow, thx for the info coachnorm. that makes me want to target him even more, before he gets off the PUP list. you guys think he would be worth trading away an Anthony Gonzalez to get in a dynasty? the problem with me is, i know the NFL talent, but when they are rookies, i'm pretty SOL. i live in canada, and our coverage of NCAA college games isnt that great (and actually, i'm so confused by the college system, i usually dont even watch it when a big game is on, cause i have no idea whats going on). so i have a lot of trouble projecting with rookies. i figure Calvin Johnson is an obvious rookie WR keeper, but i'm on the fence with guys like Meachem, Jarrett, Bowe, S. Rice, S. Smith, A. Gonzalez. would it be worth trading away one of those and try to target a brandon marshall who's owner might be worried about the PUP list? or even target a Brandon Jones, who's owner might be worried since Ten signed Moulds today? maybe trade a couple of them for either of these guys? |

| Bloggin' Outlaw Premium Member Forum Leader | Your welcome V_M glad to help out. I am a newshound around here so I know the workings of what happens and why it happens so I know not to panic just because Brandon Jones is PUPed the first day of practice. QB Losman was PUPed for a day and then was back practicing the next day. A lot of time this happens at the start of camp. Take Jones for instance, he had a little bit of a quad problem at earlier camps. First you go to early camps, then you get a 3 week vacation before regular Training camp begins. Now Brandon may have been relaxing and not doing all the streching he should be doing while on this break. He comes to camp and the day before the first day of practice he gets a physical. Lets take a look at that quad and they try to stretch it out to the max. They start to do it and it is tight...ouch, ow... he has been on vacation after all. Ok, let's stop, PUP You for today, and then he spends the rest of the day with the trainers working the quads, stretching, whirlpools, heat applications etc. The extra added attention then makes it possible to pass the physical in the next couple of days and start practicing. This is the most likely outcome right now, but not the only one. If Brandon doesn't come off the PUP after a few days then it is time to raise an antenna and keep a close eye on him. But also you have to still consider that while it is not good to miss a lot of camp, missing the first week of camp is not the end of the world either. So you already have Anthony Gonzalez, I know he is already held in high dynasty regards as far as talent goes although it may take some time to work up the ranks. There are others who may be better able to gauge the aspects of trading him away and for who. I am good but you should probably gets as much info as possible as their are a lot of posters here that really know their stuff. It might be a good idea to post your roster and get see what the gang here has to say. Maybe you can pick up Brandon Marshall without giving up Gonzalez. The Broncos have been looking for someone to more up at wr and the sky's the limit with Marshall. |

| Outlaw Join Date: Sep 2006 Location: ...where the wind comes sweeping down the plains | Anthony Gonzalez probably won't be of much value this year. He'll be the #3 WR. Rookie WR's don't often make a huge impact (although there are exceptions) and the Colts use their TE a lot too, so his chances could be limited. If marshall is healthy, I'd stick with him. He's a got a year under his belt and should be his teams #2 target. |

| Bloggin' Outlaw Premium Member Forum Leader | I will keep an extra eye out on Brandon Marshall and bring what ever I find here to this thread for you. You are looking at all the angles and you will get a lot of help here. Now might be a good time to send a some feelers out about Marshall just to see if his owner is a little nervous about the PUP. It may help you make a move and that would be buying low which is the way the game should be played. |

| Bloggin' Outlaw Premium Member Forum Leader | Also waiting to see is Marshall, who expects his stay on the physically-unable-to-perform list will be brief. "I'll give myself a week or so," Marshall said. "It's a day-to-day thing. Shoot, I might be out there tomorrow." |

| Who Me? Admin | Not sure if I'd deal Gonzo2 for Marshall, it's really a toss up. What is so intriguing about gonzo is the system he's in and the the fact he could be walking into a gold mine in the next couple years. This year Marshall is the better sleeper, long term I like Gonzo more. |

| is dumb so type slow Premium Member Forum Leader | Word here in the Mile High City is that he'll be set to go here shortly. Norm nailed it, he had some muscle strains. To be expected after all the OTA's and mini's plus it's been hot as crap up here. |

but the main reason i took Gonzo in the draft was cause of that potential offense. I mean, Denver has just always been Run 1st, and Marshall at best would be #2 behind walker. just got to stick it out now ![]() | |||
