New England's camera man, and Roger Goodell's Handling Of The Situation

Does this story mort's reporting have legs? The Packers thru this same camera man out last year, because they had been tipped at what he was doing. NFL confiscated his camera and tapes.

NEW ENGLAND SPY SCANDAL GATHERS MOMENTUM

On Sunday, Dan Leberfeld of Scout.com reported on suspicions that an employee of the New England Patriots had been stealing signals from the Jets' sideline. The notion that the person would venture onto the New York sideline to obtain images of the signals made no sense to us.

Now, Chris Mortensen of ESPN reports that NFL security confiscated a video camera and a videotape from a Patriots' employee who was on the Patriots' sideline.

Per Mortensen, the camera and the tape were placed into a sealed box and shipped to the league office for further review.

Mort's version makes a lot more sense -- if someone is going to record signals, it's not going to happen on the opposing team's sideline. The images will be shot from the safety of the sideline of the team for which the person with the camera works.

In 2006, the Patriots reportedly caused a "sternly written letter" regarding the videotaping of signals and/or play-calling gestures. Also, Mortensen mentions that a similar incident occurred last year, when the Patriots played at Lambeau field.

Since quarterbacks have radios in their helmets, the only signals to be stolen would relate to calls made on defense.

Stuff like this usually gets brushed under the rug, due in part (in our opinion) to the reluctance of the league office to air dirty laundry. If, however, the tape in that camera shows that the person using it was making like Brodie at Deathblow, the league might have no choice but to take action.

Especially in a climate where Commissioner Roger Goodell is smacking down players who misbehave.

Interesting. Curious if the league would do anything to the Patriots over this if the evidence actually turns out to be something.

I just missed Mort, on ESPN, talking about it again. I guess the Cameraman was aiming his camera at the Def Coordinator. They were stealing Defensive signs. Sounds like the Competition committee might go so far as docking draft picks next year if this is all true. Mort Questioned Parcells about it, and he kinda burred up. Mort said that "You were Belicheks mentor and all". Parcells avoided it, was visibly agitated, and siad the one way to avoid it was to put wrist bands on the defensive team. I guess they went to far as to warn teams late last season, and early this season, not to do this!!

If the team is caught red handed, I think whoever is responsible, especially if it ends up being a coach (any coach) should be suspended, and this game should be handed to the Jets.

Only if it is found to definitely be cheating via an honest investigation.

I don't know if you guys remember this, but last year the Pats were accused of spying on the Fins as well. Frankly, I think they do this to every team they play and only get caught once in a while. However, if it's the same guy doing it, they aren't terribly smart about it.

Just a heads up...on Mike and Mike this morning on ESPN radio....

Mort told fill ins that yes this is an active story, and that New England is facing the loss of draft picks next year...including a first day pick. Mort expects Commish to react quickly and swiftly on this...as he spoke out on this once he took over.

It won't happen, but I feel they should take the game from them, along with a first day pick!! I guarantee it would likely never happen again. They oughta also suspend BB for 5 games, like they did Wade Wilson, as Coaches are to be held at a higher standard according to Goodell.

I think he got him too! I hope if this does prove true, that BB gets it handed to him before they bend him over!

Belichick suspended? The Pats will just take it up a notch. We could end up with BB outside of Gillette in a Madden bus watching updates from Satellite camera phones and calling the game while banging his latest mistress.

Oh.... My Bad.

Come and bash me Pats fans.

Patriots | Tomlinson comments on allegations of team spying
Mon, 10 Sep 2007 21:34:30 -0700
John Tomase, of the Boston Herald, reports San Diego Chargers RB LaDainian Tomlinson is not surprised by allegations the New England Patriots used a camera to steal signs. Tomlinson said, "I think the Patriots actually live by the saying, 'If you're not cheatin, you're not trying.' I mean, I think that's the way … they live off that statement. You keep hearing the different stories of people complaining about stuff that they do. So I'm not surprised."

I love it!

LT just shot that one across their bow before SD goes into Foxboro next week. That should make that game even more interesting!!

And all these years we've talked about what a genius Belichick is. I guess it's easy to be a genius if you know what defense the other team will be in. No wonder Brady always throws to the open receiver, he always knows ahead of time, who it will be!
I also like LT going off. Next weeks game was already going to be awesome after last years blow up at SDs midfield. LT just threw a little more fuel on that fire.

Pats suck!

I guess when SD loses LT can bring that up and say "you know, if the Pats were playing fair and not spying on us we couldve owned them... oh wait, they are classless too."

If the league deals with this by taking a draft pick, that would be the most unfair method of penalizing I could imagine. That would make the penalty for a bad team huge (top 5 pick), and a penalty for a team like the Patriots much less severe (bottom 5 pick most likely)

Needs to be a suspension if anything is proved, and a forfeit of the game. A penalty like that would put a stop to this immediately
