I don't know what it means but AD has a Lateral Ligament tear.

Grade 2 ligament damge per NFL Network.

I watched this game. His knee looked bad. It looked like it was flopping all over, but when he was on the sideline, he was putting pressure on it. I can't believe a torn ligament won't require surgery and he'll only be out up to 3 weeks. I hope they're right, but I have a hunch he won't be back this year.

an LCL is not a very serious injury, and most people do not even get their LCLs repaired if they are torn. he very well could return this season, but he could also just as well sit out the rest of the year since theres no reason to rush him back and we have no shortage of backs.

As an AP owner in fantasy, I hope he comes back. As a Vikings fan(if I was one...) I would say why risk it? Let the guy heal, and look to next year...when we may be lucky enough to get a Qb....and some Wrs....

Adrian Peterson, RB MIN

Vikings coach Brad Childress said Monday that rookie RB Adrian Peterson has tear in his lateral collateral ligament (LCL) in his right knee. Childress said the knee is stable otherwise and that the ACL, MCL and PCL are OK. Childress did not give a timetable on how long Peterson would be out, but Peterson will not play in Week 11 against Oakland. "What they do is they identify it both clinically and with an MRI and they go ahead and grade it with a three being the worst and one being the least," Childress said. "He's got a two-plus tear in that ligament."

Vikings Peterson out at least 1 game with injured knee - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

"The good news is that the knee is otherwise stable and the injury is isolated to that ligament," Childress said. "I'm told that's a good healing ligament." Childress said this is not a season-ending injury, but he did not talk about when Peterson might be back.

It's not as serious as an anterior cruciate ligament tear, which would have required surgery and ended Peterson's brilliant rookie season.

Now the Vikings will turn to veteran Chester Taylor, who topped 1,200 yards rushing last season and has been solid in spot duty behind Peterson this year. Taylor is averaging 5 yards per carry in a backup role

After meeting with some key veteran players and members of the Wilf family, Brad Childress agreed to reinstate the game check withheld from Troy Williamson for missing last week’s game due to the death of his grandmother(quote from some news paper),,,
They tried to keep karma good, but it didnt work. I think AD will be back in two weeks and going full speed in 4. He's just a kid. He'll be in a brace but they don't want to lose the momentum or the ticket sales

Then there is this.

Doctor suggests Peterson sit out the season Adrian Peterson - RB - MIN - Nov. 13 - 10:14 am et Though reports suggest Vikings RB Adrian Peterson could be back in the lineup by Week 12, there are those who believe he should be shut down for the season.
Noted orthopedic specialist Dr. Johnny Benjamin, who has not examined Peterson, said six weeks is a more realistic time frame for Peterson to be out. "Saying it's a Grade 2-plus (tear) is the doctors trying to give coach (Brad) Childress and all the Viking faithful some hope," said Dr. Benjamin. Six weeks would mean Peterson would be out through Week 16, beyond the conclusion of most fantasy seasons. Nov. 13 - 10:14 am et

The LCL is the best healing ligament in the knee. If it was any other ligament he would be out for the season, could even be career threatening. But, with that said I hope that the Vikings wait till he is 100% before even thinking of bringing him back. Coming back at anything less is too much of a risk.

I felt so good about this being a short term injury I picked up Jamal Lewis to back up Reginald Bush in the Death League.

I just hope the Vikings wake up, realize this season is in the toilet, and dont rush him back and fuck him up long term.

He might turn out to be an excellent RB

Heard from a few sources now that this injury is typically a 4 week healing process, followed by a 2 week rehab = 6 weeks.

I'd shut him down for the season to let him heal up completely. I lived for over 30 years without an ACL and will tell you that it was not pleasant. To allow him to play with any instability in his knee is to take a chance that he will further damage that knee. I know he wants to play, and the Vikes want him to do so, but everyone must look at the future and he is the future of the franchise, at least the near future.

From what was said today about this guy, the Vikes had to tell him to slow things down this week in practice. He was moving very well in his brace and looked like he felt fine on the sidelines. Perhaps the game today helped a bit though.
