Heard this as a possility being discussed on ESPN radio. Didn think much of it until I seen it being discussed at football guys as well. Figured it may be worth discussion here.

Personally, I think it is a good idea and that Simms will flourish under Gruden.

I can't say that they should make the change now however with the personnel changes it would be just one more IF the Buc's are not competing for a playoff berth right out of the gate. A slow start would prompt me in that direction though.

I think Gruden has been prepping us for this all off-season. No matter which workout, Gruden was talking publicly about how much he was impressed by Simms. Never a bunch about Johnson.

Gruden too a liking to Simms before he ever drafted him. It looked obvious to me at that poing that Simms would be starting for this team very soon. Simms dropped in the draft simply due to playing in a system that didnt benefit him. There is no mistaking the guys talent.

I seem to recall there were a fair number of detractors of Simms when he was drafted. His approach to the game was one concern. Regardless I don't think the team will make the switch unless incentive is given (collapse by Johnson or defeats in the opening weeks)

Exclamation

The time has come. Simms to start this Sunday. I had a feeling after he was put in for the last play of a 3 point game this week that the change would be made. Kudos to Gruden for making the move, Jeers to him for taking this long.

TAMPA - It seems more likely Brad Johnson will be replaced this week as the Bucs' starting quarterback.

Though the Bucs will wait until at least today to announce their decision, several sources close to the situation said Tuesday that Johnson appeared to be out as starter and that Chris Simms would be in. Bucs coach Jon Gruden seemed to suggest Monday that he was leaning toward going with veteran Brian Griese, noting that Griese was Johnson's backup for Sunday's game against the Broncos.
