2008 Sports Outlaw Dynasty Mock Draft

Recently 6 of the Outlaws got together and did a 12 team dynasty rookie mock draft. The draft was a blast and full of many twists and turns and some very good material to help you prepare for your rookie drafts. A special thanks go out to JScott for coming up with the idea and running with it! Also, thanks go out to Da Bomb, Phicinfan, MOJO, and Orgazmo for participating as well and offering up their comments through out the draft.

Here are the results, please feel free to use this thread for any feedback and comments. Don't like a pick, argue with us, we would love to hear your thoughts.

Also, through out the drafts we had many spirited discussions that had many great insights and I could not include them all in the feedback sections of the article. Due to this, here is the feedback thread from the draft. Again, see something we missed, or you feel we are just off on? Let us have it!

I hope you enjoy this and find this all very helpful. I also want to let everyone know we are currently mocking our 2nd one of these and hope to have it released in the next week or so. The next one will include IDP's are well.

2.01 Da Bomb - Limas Sweed, WR PIT
Sweed is my top WR long term in this scoring format, with no PPR or anything like that. He along with Thomas and Hardy were my top 3 WR grades in this draft. I think Sweed goes to the best, most stable team, with a good QB situation, and a chance to make an impact right away. Pittsburgh uses 3 and 4 WR spreads a lot, and Big Ben has a good history tossing the rock to a big lengthy WR (think Plaxico) and was openly clamoring for a guy with bigger size. He may not do a ton this year... think 500 yards and 6 TDs as a likely ceiling... but without PPR, I think he'd be my top WR long term out of this weak rookie class.

YES! Excellent choice.

2.04 MOJO - Malcolm Kelly, WR WAS
Before the NFL draft, I felt like Malcolm Kelly might be the best receiver in the draft, and after the draft, I feel like he is the best receiver that the Redskins drafted. While he may not be the fastest receiver in the draft, he is fast enough, and may have the best hands of any receiver in the draft. He will be a great deep threat, and in all honesty, I feel he will be the #1 in Washington very soon.

Im not high on slow-poke at all, but this looked alot like a "best of whats left" choice.

3.11 Miller_time2 - Lavelle Hawkins, WR TEN
Explosive WR who is a more polished WR then ex-teammate DeSean Jackson coming into the NFL. Hawkins size may limit his upside some, but in Tennessee where they are in dire need of someone to step up as Young's go to receiver, Hawkins may have some value to him. A nice sleeper pick for late in the draft.
I like this pick. He's going to be a contributor on that Tennessee roster, and since they failed to go WR early on, he's going to get his chances.

3.05 Miller_time - John David Booty, QB MIN
I was surprised how little buzz Booty received coming out. He was a guy I was keeping my eye on to see where he landed; well he landed in a heck of a spot! An excellent offensive line, an All-Pro running back, and a top-flight defense. This is all great news to a young QB, now all he needs is a chance. Well, with Tavaris Jackson ahead of him, my gut says he'll get a chance sooner rather then later, and when he does I think he will take advantage of it.

I hate USC. I loved this pick by MillerTime and by the Vikings. Probably the best running game in football just got a QB prospect that might actually pan out. I see him overtaking Jackson within the next 20 regular season games and becoming at minimum a QB that will not lose games for them.

-Bomb got a steal at 2.07 with Torrain, and a great bargain with Sweed at 2.01.
- Mojo - I have no problem with Chris Johnson at 2.04,and feel you'll have the last laugh. Mojo2..........Ryan and Keller?? Ouch!
-Orgazmo - I have a new interest in Avery (2.03), and love the grab of Carlson at 3.03.
-Miller- Mendenhall at #5
Caldwell at 2.11
- Phicinfan- 1.02 and Smith took balls and might pan out, but too ballsy for me. Hart was great at 3.08, and a must for all Addai owners.
-JScott- I would have went Forte over Jones and Torrain over Flacco. McNabb has proven he can throw the payball, and I think Jackson was nice in the bottom of the 2nd.

Well, Addai hasn't proven himself an iron man yet. If Hart gets an opportunity, he could capitalize on it - earn more playing time, improve his stock for FA, get traded into a better situation.

To answer the original question, he'll back up Addai. Hart >>>>>>>>>> Keith

I like the work ethic, but the speed hurts. Then again he could be one of those guys that wont ever run under 4.7 but plays at 4.4 on game day...who knows.

He is a must for Addai owners if you are an owner who feels the nned to cuff your main back. Count me as a cuffer.

Speed was the reason Emmitt never amounted to squat!

3.01 Da Bomb - Chad Henne, QB MIA
At this point I don't see much of anything I care about on the board other than some lottery ticket WRs. There's a couple of them I like, but I would prefer to take a guy who looks sure to have a shot at a starting job within a season or so, maybe even immediately. I saw a lot of Henne games over the last 4 years, and I don't really believe in him as a player or as the QB Miami has been waiting so many years for. But there are only 32 starters in the league, and that will be valuable to someone, plus I may be wrong. Best bang for my buck here.
Oh, wow, was that a bad pick. Henne's been taking 3rd String snaps all spring and in true Parcells-tree style won't be starting this year. If Beck shows anything at all you can forget Henne ever starting. Mario Manningham would've been a far better pick at this point, if one had to have an ex-Wolverine.

3.07 Da_Bomb2 - Davone Bess, WR MIA
I'm going off the board for my final pick. I legitimately thinking Bess is going to make it in the NFL, undrafted and all. He's a perfect fit as a slot WR and has great hands and adequate speed. He may be the next Wes Welker out in Miami. So why not?
On the other hand, you redeemed yourself here. Bess' only perceived competition for the slot receiver spot, Tab Perry, was just cut because of a season-ending ACL tear. I don't think there's any question he makes the team and becomes a downright scary 3rd option in 3/4 WR sets.
