Who's the best at each position?

Who do you think is the best currently playing in the NFL at their position?

Quarterback: Peyton Manning? Tom Brady?

Runningback: LaDainian Tomlinson would be the safe choice, but anyone given any thought to Adrian Peterson?

Wide Reciever: Another tough call. Randy Moss? TO? 85?

Tight End: Antonio Gates? Tony Gonzales?

Defensive Lineman: Jared Allen?

Linebacker: Brian Urlacher?

Defensive Back: Antonio Cromartie?

Look forward to the thoughts.

These are tough to answer.

Brady or Peyton Manning? I still say I would have to see them switching roles and see how they performed. Could Brady handle a system where he almost controls the offense the way Manning does? We don't know. I can't help but think that if Manning was in the Patriots system, where so much of the decision making was lifted from his shoulders, he would perform even better statistically. In the end though, I can't call it either way.

RB - LaDainian Tomlinson, hands down. McFadden will be giving him a run for his money in the next year or two though.

WR - Moss disappeared down the stretch, T.O. lacks concentration (drops) too often, Chad Johnson negates his talent with his selfish attitude. For me it becomes a toss up between Owens and 85. I will lean toward Owens because believe it or not, this guy has become more of a team player at this point in his career than any of the three.

TE - Witten. The guy simply gets it done in every aspect of the position. Tell this guy he is staying in to block the entire game and he just smiles and starts knocking linebackers down.

DL - too many systems to narrow down the best player

LB - Call me crazy, but if I am going with DeMeco Ryans.

DB - Pacman Jones, if Goodell would just let him play the damn game

It depends on if you are comparing talent or performance. I will explain what I mean below.

I have to go Brady here. I think talent wise Manning is head and shoulders over Brady. But you cannot deny that Brady has done a whole lot with not much to work with. Had he had Harrison and crew instead of the Wrs he had (other than Moss this year..) so I have to give the nod to Brady for that alone.

I will go LT2 here for now. Simply because on year is not enough to prove that Peterson will be Peterson. No one can deny what LT2 has done, over multiple years and the tools he has. My question is ....is this the year he starts to wear down due to overall carries and abuse?

to me...I am not sure any of these rate. Randy Moss was a no name for the last few years till last year. And even last year he disappeared for a long period of time. Owens has a tendancy to get dinged up , miss games and drop balls. Chad can be spectacular, but he also can knock himself out of games due to his ego and stupidity. If not for last year, I would say Harrison would rate here. But of the three choices you give, i will go with chad. Harrison would be my #1a

Gates. No other TE going right now has his tools. Gonzales did at one time, but age has caught up to him. Winslow Jr has a shot, but he has to show he can survive the injuries. Witten is up there, but not the talent of Gates.

Not sure on this. Do you score on Sacks? Overall pressure? Ability to stop the run? All of the above? Allen very well maybe a one year wonder as well.

Mike may be right but the kid in San Fran deserves consideration as well.

A good choice in Cromartie. However, there are alot of great Cbs...who don't get thrown at due to talent. Cromartie took advantage of his rookie status...so I will nod to him for now.

Quarterback: Tom Brady
Look at what he's done with the WRs he's had.

Runningback: LaDainian Tomlinson
Tough yards, potential for a touchdown every play, great hands out of the backfield...he's got the whole package.

Wide Reciever: Reggie Wayne
Watch what he's going to do next season.
1a. If Steve Smith had a decent QB, he'd be #1.

Tight End: Chris Cooley
I love the toughness of this H-back.

Defensive Lineman: Patrick Kerney
The new prototype DL.

Linebacker: Lofa Tatupu
The guy can flat out play...Pro Bowl every year.

Defensive Back: Adrian Wilson
Remember that 66" verticle jump video?

Here's how I will answer: If I had to start a team with a player at these positions in their current state, who would I pick:

QB: Peyton Manning
RB: LT
WR: TO
TE: Gates -
DL: Haynesworth - I want a big guy in the middle
LB: Willis - Youth on his side, kid is a STUD!
DB: Bailey - Shuts his side of the field down.

Here's mine:

QB: Brady
RB: LT
WR: I'm going to throw another guy in the pot here (though I very much like MVP's pick of Reggie Wayne), Brandon Marshall
TE: Winslow, Jr.
DL: Also have to take Kerney.
LB: Willis definatley has to be up there, would also like to throw in Barrett Ruud.
DB: Bob Sanders

QB: Brady goes here. While he may not have the arm that Manning has, he is a smarter and more poised QB.

RB: LT goes here by default. No one else has done it as well as he has for as long as he has. The bug name RB's are up and down each year while LT is always consistantly among the best.

WR: Im going Marvin Harrison here. Sure he doesn't have the single season TD record, nor is as entertaining to watch as TO or Chad, but he, like LT, is the most consistant of all the other star wideouts. He makes the tough catches and gets good yards.

DL: Right now, this is the hardest position to pick out because there is such a high level of drop off from year to year in production. If I were going to have to pick, Im going Casey Hampton. He consistant and reliable. He does his job and clogs the middle.

LB: You could go flashy and say Merriman. Or you could go consistant and go with Urlacher. but for me, Im going Dameco Ryans. He gets from sideline to sideline better then anyone else Ive ever seen. He makes plays all over the field. he stops the run and handles pass coverage. He's a complete LB.

DB: Champ Bailey is the hands down winner for me here. There aren't very many true shut down corners anymore. He can completely take away one side of the field.

QB: It's a tough call here, but you really can't lose either way. I give a slight edge here to Brady.
RB: LT, even though retirement isn't far off.
WR: Going away from the crowd here and picking Steve Smith. Just imagine what he could do with Manning or Brady throwing to him.
TE: Witten
DL: Jared Allen
LB: Urlacher
DB: Nnamdi Asomugha - yeah, may be a bit homerish, but he is definitely in the argument for top DB in the league.
