Kurt Warner vs Matt Leinart

Ok....who is going to run this show in 2008?

Warner. Superbowl Champion. Former All Pro. Threw 27 TDs and 17 INTs in 2007 after Leinart went down.

Leinart. National Football Champion. High Draft Choice. Fat contract.

What do you folk think?

They will force Leinert into the starting position if for no other reason then pride and his fat contract.

Ok...who SHOULD be the starter?

I know Warner is what...10 years into the NFL now, with arena before that, but the guy proved last year he still has it.

TC will determine who shuld be the starter, but my guess is that Leinart shows some maturity this year and earns the job. However, weather he earns it or not, he'll get his shot.

Warner should be the starter. He's smarter then Leinet, and with Arizona's WR corps, they need the smartest QB. Leinert needs to get his head straight or we're going to see a repeat of the David Carr debacle.

Leinart brings over some of his hot tub babes and "earns" the job.

I think it will truly be a case of Leinart having to earn his way back into the starting lineup. The Cardinals are not going to just let him have the job if he isn't willing to do the work needed to learn the offense and run it properly.

If Leinart puts forth the effort in the offseason, I think he will beat out Warner. I just don't know that Leinart cares enough make that happen.

I think Warner is the better of the two, for sure. I don't see what the hoopla is with Leinart. I haven't seen anything to show he can win a clutch game. I also think that the receiver, and some being new, will play better for Warner, just because he is experienced and can handle the pressure. The young receivers need that.

If I was a young receiver..I'd be like "Kurt Warner...he's won a Super Bowl and he can bomb it. Leinart is in the same boat as me, just trying to come into his own and become a star."

Warner. Leinart doesn't have enough arm.

The Cardinals have to go with Leinart. Last year was his first year in the system, and he should improve with another year of understanding. Warner is strictly an emergency option. And a dang good one at that.

does anyone think they will consider continuing the funky goal line offense they did last year, where one QB plays 90% of the game but the other one comes in near the goal line?

I don't think they will do that this year, but who knows. if they struggle, they may bring it back.

Leinart will be on a very short leash IMO. I think like duk says, they almost have to start him...but if he falters at all, you will see Warner. Expectations are high in Arizona again...and they won't allow the team to coddle Leinart.

Cardinals' QB competition continues

Matt Leinart is still penciled in as the Cardinals' starting quarterback. But remember, most pencils have erasers, too.

That's why when Ken Whisenhunt was asked to reiterate who his No. 1 quarterback will be when the Cardinals show up at training camp sometime next month, the head coach tried to be as politically correct as possible.

Yes, he said, Leinart's the man. But he quickly added that veteran Kurt Warner would be right there with him, ready to assume duties at any given moment.

"It's the same thing it was when I said back at the end of the season," Whisenhunt said after volunteer workouts Monday in Tempe. "Matt's our starter, Kurt's going to be there pushing. It's going to be a tough job for Matt to keep because Kurt played at a high level for us last year, he's been doing a lot of work in the off-season and he's looked sharp in these drills.

"It's competition. And it's not just at quarterback, it's every position on our team and that's the way you like to have it."

I've heard that these 2 guys are fiercely competing in the off season to secure this starting spot, but in a good way. I don't think there is a way to tell who will actually be the starter this year.
However, this is how I see it playing out. Whoever gets the call as the starter at the beginning of the year is not the starter at the end. Either by cause of injury or bad play. I think both of these guys are susceptible to both. Leinart already proved to be Downy soft and Warner isn't a young man himself. Leinart is still young and learning to be a leader, and Warner is a throw back gunslinger with high probability for throwing multiple INT in a game and getting pulled. Should be interesting.
