The way Favre could make up for the distraction is to come back and play for the league minimum allowing the Pack to make other moves to improve. I dont know what they could do at this point, maybe Alexander as a backup RB or some other key spare parts.

Overall though, it just stinks. The will he or wont he drama is self serving and in reality, his turnovers have been killers for the Pack in playoff games for almost a decade. Obviously I would take him in Chi as would Viking fans. A qb upgrade and it would drive Pack fans nuts. That would be too good to be true.

Many stars hang on too long and its sad to see. Jerry Rice in Seattle was awful. That said, I dont blame them for wanting to continue. Its natural for competitive athletes to want to keep going as long as they can. With Favre however, its the waffling for the past 3 years that stinks. The NFL is a better league with him, but just make up your mind and stop the media whoring.

Great post Walt and a great idea for Brett. The Pack has plenty of space to pay him though. I wish he would do what you said though, and play for peanuts. that would only add to his leagcy regardless of the outcome. I am going to see that this idea makes it to Green bay. I hold Stock you know!

  • -- Favre Expected to Demand to be Taken Off Reserve/Retired List --
    Mon Jul 7, 2008 --from FFMastermind.com
  • SI.com's Peter King fully expects QB Brett Favre's agent to send a letter to the Green Bay Packers within the next 10 days, stating that Favre, 38, wants to be taken off the National Football League's reserve/retired list. At that point, the team will have no choice but to re-admit the league's most accomplished statistical quarterback ever back to football, and GM Ted Thompson and HC Mike McCarthy will have a decision to make that you can be sure is keeping them up nights. They can take Favre and his $12.8-million cap number back onto the team and give him his starting job back, they can trade him or they can release him. Every one of those options makes the Packers wretch. An edgy McCarthy told Favre, in their most recent phone conversation a couple of weeks ago, the legendary quarterback would put the Packers in a tough spot by reneging on his March 6 retirement. Favre understands. But it's not likely going to stop him from doing what his body tells him to do -- play football again.

On Mike & Mike this morning they reported that Favre sent Thompson a text message stating that they needed to talk......Thompson's response: I'm on vacation, it's going to have to wait!

Sure doesn't sound like Thompson is excited about this at all.......this should get interesting.

I think Favre's intentions were good. It was a grueling season, and after the criticism he took for waiting so long before making an announcement in the past, he went with his gut feeling at the time.

Now that football season is rolling around again, he feels 100% ready to play.

10 years from now, the guy is going to be too old to play football. If I was him, the last thing I would want to do is spend the next few years regretting not getting back out on the field when he felt like that is where he belonged.

If a hall of fame QB who is still one of the best in the game wants to play, he needs to play. Could be a very long time before Green Bay has this caliber of Quarterback again.

  • -- Favre's Chances of Returning at 80% --
    Fri Jul 11, 2008 --from FFMastermind.com
  • NFL.com's Pat Kirwan reports an NFL insider placed QB Brett Favre's chances of returning to the NFL this season at 80 percent. Favre is throwing footballs and working out, showing that he has more than an itch to play. Favre, 38, has an 18-4 record in his last 22 games and is coming off a season in which he led the Packers offense to a No. 2 ranking in the NFL and threw for 4,155 yards and 28 touchdowns. He can still play -- he knows it and so do a number of NFL franchises just waiting to see what the Packers will do if he shows up in Green Bay for the start of training camp. If Favre notifies the league that he is ready to play again -- and I now believe he will do just that -- the Packers will face the reality that he is headed back to Titletown. Green Bay can reassemble his locker, cut a player on the roster to make room for him, use a chunk of salary cap space for his reentry and make another run at the Super Bowl. His salary of close to $12 million immediately counts against the cap and if he were to get hurt during the summer they would be responsible for the whole nut. If he's on the opening day roster, his salary is guaranteed.

It looks like Favre is coming back now. Poor Aaron Rodgers... he may be fragile and such but nobody deserves to be put through this. Favre couldn't be torturing Aaron more if he was TRYING to.

-- Favre Sends Letter to Packers Asking for Release --
Fri Jul 11, 2008 --from FFMastermind.com
ESPN's Chris Mortensen reports retired Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre has sent a letter to the team asking for his release. Since the Packers don't want him back, Favre would prefer the team release him immediately so that he can pursue opportunities with other NFL teams.

Well...I still have him on my team as a retired player. I hope he says something before the end of week 3 of the preseason so I can make a decision whether or not to release someone else or announce his retirement from my roster.

Packer Statement

"Brett earned and exercised the right to retire on his terms. We wanted him to return and welcomed him back on more than one occasion. Brett's press conference and subsequent conversations in the following weeks illustrated his commitment to retirement. The finality of his decision to retire was accepted by the organization. At that point, the Green Bay Packers made the commitment to move forward with our football team. As a retired player, Brett has the option to apply for reinstatement with Commissioner Goodell. If that were to occur, he would become an active member of the Green Bay Packers. As always, the Packers will do what's right and in the best interest of the team. As with all Packers greats, Brett's legacy will always be celebrated by our fans and the organization, regardless of any change in his personal intentions. Brett and Deanna will always be a p art of the Packers family."

Packers statement in simpler terms.

Brett you freaking emotional train. What the hell were you thinking organizing a press conference and crying like a little bitch. We knew you were going to come back. Hell, we offered over and over for you to come back but you shot us down. You sold us on being retired you son of a bitch. Now stay retired. We've moved on Brett and we'll happily trade your ass. DICK!

Favre is making a lot of fantasy waves. In dynasty leagues it is just a matter of hanging on for awhile longer. In keeper leagues the idea of using a very valuable keeper spot for him is important. A lot of these keeper decisions will come up soon. Hopefully this will play through reasonably fast.

From a fantasy point of view the possibility of Favre not being with the Packers is also a keeper concern.

If Favre comes back and plays for the Packers, YIPPIE!

If Farve comes back and plays for the Kansas City Chiefs,
is he a keeper quality QB in that situation?
