I did not know about this connection, but feel there is absolutely 1% cahnce he plays in Minnesota. It would be the best TV, but not a scenario any Packer GM, Coach, Asst., or Stock Holder would ever care to see.
  • -- Packers Want to Prevent Favre from Going to Minnesota --
    Sat Jul 12, 2008 --from FFMastermind.com
  • SI.com's Peter King reports the reason the Green Bay Packers will not give Favre his freedom is simple. His team of choice is Minnesota, in my opinion, in large part because Vikings OC Darrell Bevell is a good friend of Favre's dating back to the three years (2003-05) Bevell was his quarterback coach in Green Bay. If Favre and agent Bus Cook, who, according to ESPN.com on Friday asked the Packers for Favre's unconditional release, believe that the Packers will allow him to go free so he can sign with Minnesota, they're crazy.

GREEN BAY, Wis. (AP)—The Green Bay Packers’ general manager and coach say they don’t plan to grant Brett Favre’s request for his release.

GM Ted Thompson and coach Mike McCarthy told The Associated Press on Saturday that the star quarterback was welcome to rejoin the team but would have to be a backup.

It was their first public comments since Favre demanded his release this week. Favre held a tearful news conference to announce his retirement March 6.

Thompson and McCarthy did not want to discuss a possible trade. Thompson said he had not received any inquiries as of Saturday morning.

I honestly would like the move of the Packers trading Favre out of the NFC to someone else for some solid draft picks.
You think you still want to play football Brett? Go spend a few years in KC and see if you still want to do this.
Well if Brett goes to another team where would it be. First let's discount all the teams that are committed to their QB's, and the NFC North (the Packers are not going to let him beat them out of the playoffs). The teams I figure that are out of the Favre running are due to commitments...Dal, NYG, WAS, PHI, ATL, NO, ARI, STL, SF, SEA, BUF, NE, NYJ, CIN, CLE, PIT, IND, JAX, TEN, DEN, OAK, SD. That leaves CAR, TB, MIA, BAL, KC, HOU. I think the likely suitors will be Carolina (as a replacement when Delhomme gets hurt), Tampa Bay (reunited with Jon Gruden), Miami (who knows what Parcells will do), Baltimore (Boller-Really??) and Kansas City (who haven't had a good QB for a long time). What do you think?

There is no way that the Packers let him stay in the NFC North. If he really wants to be in the NFL why don't the Packers offer him a sideline job like ball boy.

I have had him on my team since our league started back in '96. He was actually the first overall selected. This is why I am torn. I would like him to retire from my team, having never played for another team in my league. Man this sucks...

I don't see the announcement that they won't release him as news. They would have to be insane to grant him an unconditional release.

I don't believe for a minute that they would keep him around as Rodgers' back-up, either. The controversy would begin with Rodgers' first incomplete pass, if not sooner.

Favre will get reinstated as a Packer, and GB will work out a trade.

I agree completely, Jake. There is no way in Hell that GB would let him just chose to play for Min. It would be suicide. Their best bet is to try and trade him to an AFC team, so that they have the least amount of chance to play him next year.

Favre in Sota makes a lot of sense at first.

The Vikes need a QB to manage the game and not lose it. Does that really sound like something Brett can do?

Anyone know Favre's record indoors?

Tampa is a real possibility. Miami seems a bit of a stretch at this point as Im sure Parcells and Favre wouldn't mesh, but a trade of Favre for Jason Taylor makes this an interesting proposition. Both are at the end of their careers and, at best, have maybe 2 seasons left in their bodies, both have hefty price tags, and both want out of their current situation.

Carolina would love nothing more then a gun slinger like Favre. Delhomme would probably take a backseat to Favre by the 3rd game and a Favre/Smith connection is a little scary.

Baltimore has been craving a QB, any QB, that isn't afraid to throw the ball (Boller) and stay healthy doing it (Mcnair) for a long time. He would be the immediate starter and they would let him sling the ball around the field at will.

Minnesota is probably where he wants to go, but the chances of that happenning are remote unless the Vikings give up entirely to much for him. Carolina is probably #2 on his list. Baltimore seems to be the best fit.

I think Favre "wants" to return as a Packer. The guy simply loves the team.

For the Packers, here is what I think they are looking at in terms of the future.

Rodgers "might" be able to lead this team into the future, but I don't think the Packers feel real comfortable with that, which is why they drafted Brohm early, as well as another QB later in the draft.

If Favre is allowed back, even in a truly open QB battle, I think he easily wins the battle. The Packers are a Super Bowl contender, and they get the most out of a top QB in the league (even today), and they get the most out of a veteran receiver in Donald Driver. They also get an entire team that is focused on making a Super Bowl run. With the talent that is on this team, this is a great scenario.

If Favre is brought back, and not traded, and not given a fair shot at starting, Green Bay implodes. Favre as a backup brings way too much pressure on Rodgers (who will already be under the ultimate pressure of replacing a hall of famer). I think Rodgers will collapse in this scenario, and ultimately force an early entry by Brohm into the category of "starting NFL quarterback". The result is a franchise that will be snake bit for quite a long time.

Bottom line, the first sign of struggle by Rodgers if Favre isn't starting this year, things will go south for the Packers franchise, possibly for quite a long time.

3 years for 39 Million. If Favre comes back to the Pack in any capacity, he will be opening day Qb, as he is still light years better than Rodgers will ever amount to being.

  • -- Favre Expected to Beat Out Rodgers --
    Sun Jul 13, 2008 --from FFMastermind.com
  • ESPN's John Clayton reports if Green Bay Packers QB Brett Favre is in shape and willing to make the time commitment as he did last year, he's going to beat out QB Aaron Rodgers for the starting job. That's a no-brainer.

There's no doubt in my mind that if GB says "Brett, we will take you back on the roster, but your starting job is not gauranteed," he'll come back, and beat out anyone. The worry was that he would come back and they wouldn't give him his starting job back.
