Schedule Crunchers : Miami Dolphins

SCHEDULE CRUNCHERS

Miami Dolphins
AFC East

The final team in the AFC East is a a real powerhouse. The Miami Dolphins. Possibly the most pathetic team in the NFL last year. The only bright spot in their fantasy world was Ronnie Brown until he fell apart. Can Ronnie come back healthy? Is their soft division enough to inspire confidence in the fantasy world?

Division : AFC East
Yards Allowed Per Game
Patriots : 288 (4th)
Jets : 332 (19th)
Dolphins 342 (23rd)
Bills : 362 (31st)

Points Allowed Per Game
Patriots : 17 (4th)
Bills : 22 (18th)
Jets : 22 (19th)
Dolphins : 27 (30th)

As noted in previous Schedule Crunchers, most of you know that the AFC East is facing off against the AFC West this year. Most of you are probably aware also that the AFC West isn't getting a whole lot of love from the defensive side of things either. Below you will find the opponents and their defensive ranking based on a combination of points allowed and yards allowed from the 2007 season. These are the 2 stats that typically can indicate how well fantasy players will score against any given defense.

Week 1 : Jets (18th)
Week 2 : Cardinals (19th)
Week 3 : Patriots (4th)
Bye
Week 5 : Chargers (9th)
Week 6 : Texans (22nd)
Week 7 : Ravens (15th)
Week 8 : Bills (24th)
Week 9 : Broncos (23rd)
Week 10 : Seahawks (12th)
Week 11 : Raiders (25th)
Week 12 : Patriots (4th)
Week 13 : Rams (29th)
Week 14 : Bills (24th)
Week 15 : 49ers (21st)
Week 16 : Chiefs (14th)
Week 17 : Jets (18th)

Strength Of Schedule Index : 17

Fantasy Playoffs

Bills (24th) 49ers (21st) Chiefs (14th)

Fantasy Playoffs Strength Index : 19.66

Another AFC East team, another weak schedule. Even though the schedule is moderate, I still can't quite preach what the schedule is selling in this case. The running game looks to have an easy time of it this year I just can't get on board. I think with Ricky in town and Ronnie coming off injury, this becomes RBBC. This terrifies me. RBBC on a team that has no passing game. If the Miami D can turn things around this year perhaps the offense will have a few more opportunities. Realistically, Miami's schedule is probably more dependent on how good of offenses their facing.

Bills, Niners and Chiefs during fantasy playoffs.

I have to believe most of The Tuna's men will be playing for a paycheck in 2009 around this time.

And at least one, maybe all of those teams they'll be playing, will be looking at new coaching staffs in 2009.

Ronnie Brown could be an interesting mid season acquisition if that schedule turns out to be as soft at the end as it appears it may. YOu have to figure Brown may start a little slow making him a possible buy low target around week 5 or 6. I would say he has a chance to start to get into a rhythm in the 2nd half.

The rest of this dolphin offense..... YUCK!!! Besides a flyer on guys like Ginn and Ricky is there anyone else you'd even consider???

This could actually work perfectly. The most difficult stretch of their season is in the opening when Ronnie should be working back in slowly. Owners may become impatient with his production. Chances are any owner who spends a 3rd round pick on this guy will have him plugged into a starting spot. I can see a frantic owner accepting a dynamite deal to unload this guy early on.

I actually like Ginn with a very late pick. He should still be returning kicks and I have to see this guy being the main target in the passing game. I know there isn't much going on at QB but at least the O line is solid. They should have plenty of time for Ginn to blow by a CB from time to time.
