Travis Henry tests positive again

Quote:
A source close to free agent running back Travis Henry has confirmed he has tested positive for marijuana again and is subject to a one-year suspension by the NFL.

The source said Henry will soon start serving the year suspension. An NFL spokesman said today that the league has no comment on Henry's status. Henry, 29, was released by the Denver Broncos on June 2 and a Broncos' source said Friday that the team did not know about Henry's positive tests when he was released.

Henry was cut because he stopped showing up to work this spring while he was recovering from a nagging hamstring injury. A source close to Henry said Henry was informed of the positive test in May and the Broncos were not aware of it.

Henry was suspended in by the NFL last October for a year after a positive marijuana test. However, he won an appeal eight weeks later, overturning that suspension.

Because of this pending suspension, there is a strong likelihood Henry's career could be over because of his repeated issues and his advanced age for a running back. Henry, who previously played for Buffalo and Tennessee, signed a five-year, $22 million contract with Denver in the spring of 2007.
ESPN - Sources: Ex-Bronco Henry tests positive for marijuana - NFL

FOX 31 Sports reporter

DENVER (MyFOXColorado.com) - A highly-placed NFL source says former Denver Broncos running back Travis Henry has tested positive again for marijuana.

FOX 31 Sports reporter Josina Anderson learned about the positive test late Thursday night.

That information came from the same highly-placed NFL source that broke news of failed drug tests by both Miami Dolphins running back Ricky Williams and Henry to FOX 31 in the past.

“He is coming up for a year suspension,” the source told Josina Anderson.

This is the second time Henry is facing a possible one-year suspension from the NFL.

On December 4, 2007, the 29-year-old Henry successfully appealed a previous positive marijuana test result of 21 nanograms/milliliter. Henry’s attorneys demonstrated a lapse in the NFL’s discovery process when the league failed to turn over all of Henry’s test results from within a two-week period of his offending sample.

What a complete idiot. I thought he was worth the risk at #23 in a redraft league last year. Paired up with Steven Jackson I liked my starting RBs after draft night. He won't be ruining any teams in 08.

I take it you're being sarcastic.

While I agree that weed isn't nearly as bad for you as booze or prescription drugs the point is that Travis Henry isn't committed enough to football to lay off the herb for a few weeks.

I love smoking weed, but if my football career was on the line because of a stupid drug test for that weed... I'd put down the joints for a short while. If he's not committed enough to do that I question his commitment to football. Is the rule and the law itself silly? Of course. But institutions will always have ridiculous rules that you simply have to abide by.

Pretty much answers the questions we raised in the Denver cuts Henry thread. You knew this had to be coming.

It's just a bit of reefer. Come on!! Maybe Travis is a better football player when he can unwind with a little doobage.
If people can get a welfare check without having to pass a drug test why should anyone else have to pass one to get paid???

Well the welfare point is a whole nother topic...as to why, I don't know, maybe b/c it's still against the law and the collective bargaining agreement that governs the league

I'm only sarcastic on days ending in Y. Probably a defense mechanism.

I think it is very impressive that any person can play at such a high level while getting high on what looks like a regular basis.

What if Trav got a prescription? One for the depression he is probably enduring at this very moment.

I guess I'll have to knock him down a few slots on my draft list.
