Mike Bell Released By Broncos/Turns Texan

In 20 games as a Bronco, Mike Bell rushed 162 times for 680 yards and 8 touchdowns. 4.2 yards per carry when given the opportunity to run.

Last season, Mike Bell ended up in Shanahan's doghouse and never climbed out, despite a productive 2006 season. Personally, I think much of this was due, not to a couple fumbles, but because Mike Bell was outperforming Travis Henry during the preseason and Shanahan didn't want to be looked upon as the fool he is for acquiring Travis Henry when the team didn't need him or his baggage.

Somebody needs to swipe this guy up ASAP and give him a legit chance. The Houston Texans need to take note and go get this guy now as he is a perfect fit for the system, much better than anything they have on the roster now.

i agree, the texans would be a great fit. i could see the lions or bears being nice places too where he can comfortably be a #2 back and get 3-5 carries a game to spell a starter.

i guess this unmuddies the denver situation a little further. looks like its just pittman or torain now.

As it stands now:

Young - Pittman - Hall - Torrain

so in terms of fantasy, if he DID hook up with a team like the texans, does mike bell have any vaule at all?

Like are any of you actually monitoring where he ends up? Or is he like a total write off right now unless something drastic happens (signs & we see some injuries)?

Probably the rookie thing, but you never can tell what Shanny is going to do next at RB. He frustrates the crap out of me.

MOJO firmly believes he could become the next Julius Jones.

Yup. Shanny creamed when he got Torrain. He's now signed so you'll likely see that order shuffle a bit between Hall and Torrain if he pans out. Pittman is pretty much a lock for 3rd down and long yardage downs and Young (for now) is the entrenched starter. It would take fumbles or injury to shuffle the deck it would appear.

I am monitoring it closely. Bell should have started for Denver last year as far as I am concerned.

If he lands in Houston, and can compete for the starting job, I think he quickly wins it.

I'm still betting on Chris Brown over Mike Bell.

Right now, it looks like Ahman Green is the favorite for the bulk of the carries, with Chris Brown getting in there maybe 100 touches.

Houston has a pretty deep stable of running backs, which would make it hard for Bell to be brought in, unless someone was cut. Currently you have Green, Brown, Slaton, Walker, and Taylor all figuring to get carries this year. Somebody would have to disappear if Bell was brought in.

I agree Ahman Green is the best of this group. I just can't see him staying healthy past say week 3. Chris Brown provided he stays healthy is 2nd best.

As a Houston fanatic, I can tell you that there are 3 Houston RB's that are not considered expendable.

First, Ahman Green. As of right now, Green is the starter but is a risk due to injury concerns. But if he is slowed by injuries or is unproductive, in steps:

Chris Brown. A guy who's run for 1000 yards before but is best when he's the number 2 back. He will get 5 to 8 touches a game just spelling Green to keep him from getting to banged up. But, again, Brown is an injury risk and has an attitude issue. But on third downs, you will see:

Slaton. Houston loves his speed and elusiveness. He can catch the ball and gives them a legitimate receiving threat out of the backfield.

Walker and Taylor are emergency backs and are expendable. But Mike Bell is not going to go to Houston if he believes that he's, at best, going to be the 4th rb.

Houston is happy at RB right now. Houston fans aren't so sure. Personally, Id love to see Bell come in and compete for the starting RB spot, but he wouldn't be given the chance.

In the end, if they are only going to suit 3 RB, Brown or Green would have to go. Houston is to high on Slaton to let him walk away.

Wednesday’s practice session came and went without much in the way of breaking news. However, there was a report from the Houston Texans own Brooke Bentley that said free agent running back Mike Bell would be paying the Texans a visit Thursday morning.
Chris Brown already hurt, no big shocker here.

Adam Caplan at BattleRedNation.com / Scout.com reports the Houston Texans have signed Mike Bell to a contract. Contract details have not been released and we'll have to wait and see who is released to make roster space.
