Ryan Grant???

Keep your eyes on this, as I don't think the Packers really care. I feel they are perfectly fine with playing jackson if they need to. They are not going to sell the farm this season, as it is already a fucking mess. Grant will get something, but he will be the one settling...........or sitting. Jackson needs to be on all LATE radars, for he might be the one running the ball.
  • -- Ryan Grant Won't Report to Camp Without New Long-Term Deal --
    Wed Jul 23, 2008 --from FFMastermind.com
  • The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel reports for the first time this off-season, the Packers and the agent for RB Ryan Grant have had substantive talks about a long-term contract, but as of right now Grant is holding firm that he won't report to training camp if an agreement isn't reached. Grant's agent, Alan Herman, said this afternoon that the two sides finally got down to business last Friday and have spoken almost every day since in an attempt to hammer out a contract. Herman didn't think the two sides were all that far apart, but there were some fundamental differences that were keeping the deal from getting done. "You would think that it would not be that difficult to get done," Herman said. "I think we're trying to do that. Overall, the majority of the money we're willing to put into performance-based pay. The better he does, the more money he makes. It's a no-brainer. "Ryan's done everything to be professional about this. You see other people around the league not showing up (for off-season workouts). Ryan didn't have to show up, but he did." Herman said he remains optimistic that the two sides will reach an agreement before players are scheduled to report on Sunday. But Packers negotiator Russ Ball has seven draft picks to finish this week and he'll have to balance that with finishing Grant's deal.

Rayn Grant did not report to training camp today starting a hold-out in search of a contract extension.

I wonder if Brandon Jackson has learned how to block for the QB yet?

Grant know his best chance to get a big contract is now. Magical season for him last year, and it likely won't be repeated this year.

I was listening to ESPN radio last night. They were saying he HAS no contract right now, so that is why he is not in camp. Is he a RFA or some such? I thought he had a year left..but if no contract then this hold out makes sense.

He may be a RFA that has not signed his tender, that is the only way he'd have "no contract", when in reality he does have a contract, he just has to sign the 1 year tender. This is just a guess, there is no way he can have no contract, he'd be signed elsewhere if that was the case.

Now I am really confused...I just read one update at a site that says he has two years left on his contract. What a confusing mess.

Just my opinion, but I think GB is making a huge mistake here. Jackson is not the rb that Grant is, doesn't have the speed nor the ability to make folks miss. If they are so locked up in what they have to do for Favre, that they miss out on Grant....they will really regret it.

Grant signed a 1 year deal last year for 310K.

Entering 2008, he is not under any sort of contract.

Quote:
Grant was signed by the Giants as an undrafted rookie in 2005 but didn't play a down in 2005 or 2006. He was traded to the Packers last September 1 for a sixth-round pick in the 2008 draft. He signed a one-year contract for $310,000 -- "probably the greatest bargain in the history of football," Herman said.
Herman put together a performance-based contract proposal for Grant that he felt was "fair and reasonable." On Saturday afternoon, the Packers countered with a six-year offer with only $1.75 million guaranteed.
Herman described Green Bay's offer as "offensive" and said Grant "is past disappointed. Ryan is angry."
What vexed Herman was how long it took Russ Ball, the Packers' vice president of football administration/player finances, to begin negotiations about Grant. According to Herman, he tried to talk contract with the Packers several times during the offseason, but was told each time that the team had more pressing matters.
"First it was free agency, then it was the Combine, then it was the draft, then OTAs," Herman said. "You name it, there was always an excuse not to get a proposal."

F*ck Grant. He had 1/2 good year. They already said no to Farve. Say no to Grant.

BAM!

Grant, Packers agree to four-year, $30 million deal

GREEN BAY, Wis. -- While the Green Bay Packers have been dealing with one distraction, the team has taken care of another.
Ryan Grant, RB
Green Bay Packers

2007 Statistics:
Carries: 188
Yards: 956
Touchdowns: 8

The Packers have agreed to a four-year, $30 million deal with running back Ryan Grant, reports NFL Network's Adam Schefter. The contract also includes $4.25 million guaranteed.
Grant was an exclusive-rights free agent, but refused to sign his tender offer from the team in hopes of working out a long-term deal. Grant did not report to camp, and talks between agent Alan Herman and the Packers had stalled until late this week.
Grant, acquired by the Packers in a trade with the New York Giants just before the start of last season, became the starter in the second half of the season and rushed for 956 yards and eight touchdowns. He added 201 yards and three touchdowns in Green Bay's playoff victory over Seattle.
Grant participated in the Packers' offseason workout program but sat out offseason practices because he didn't have a deal in place.
