RB LaMont Jordan Dropped -- Signed by New England

The long LaMont Jordan saga in Oakland is over.
The team released the running back Friday after an exhaustive attempt to trade him since early June. Friday's resolution concludes a turbulent end to Jordan's three years in Oakland.

The Raiders tried to trade him but every team knew he would be dropped.

Man, he'd look good in San Diego reunited with Norv.

Not that that will happen. Where could he start?

Jordan won't start anywhere...not anywhere good, anyway.

If he's your starter at this point, you suck.

I thought I felt a small rumble through the Earth's core when LaMont Jordan was "dropped".

I wouldn't mind seeing the Browns pick grab him for some RB depth. They have none.

New England may be a decent home for him.

I would actually like to see Houston pick him up. I think that would make them a legitimate contender for those who say they are not. Does anyone remember the numbers this guy put up last year when he played? Its not his fault he plays for the most messed up franchise in Football.

He might get snatched up by Cincy....but who knows, Alexander, Benson, and Davenport are all still out there and maybe Jordan will be unemployed for a while

I'll put odds on Detroit. Theyr'e betting the farm on a 3rd round rookie and could use a veteran to mentor him.

Jerry McDonald, of ANG Newspapers, reports the release of RB LaMont Jordan saves the Oakland Raiders $3.3 million against the salary cap. Jordan had two years remaining on his contract. He was scheduled to earn $4.7 million this season and $5 million in 2009. Prorated bonus money of $1.4 million will be charged to the team in each of the next two seasons.

NFL Network's Adam Schefter reports the Patriots have signed RB LaMont Jordan, a day after he was released by the Raiders.

Jordan also considered New Orleans, but the Pats swooped in on another cheap, serviceable vet. This may say as much about the club's confidence in Sammy Morris' health as it does about Laurence Maroney. However, it's been clear for some time that Maroney's usage patterns were simply not reliable enough for fantasy leaguers, and Jordan's signing adds further concern. Maroney will remain the starter, but Jordan could play a significant enough role to hamper Maroney's consistency and overall production

Man Bomb should have did a vbookie on this. I would have made some cash

This almost sounds worse for Morris, but I'm sure it's gonna affect them all.

-- LaMont Jordan's Role with the Patriots --
Sun Jul 27, 2008 --from FFMastermind.com
The Boston Globe reports new Patriots RB LaMont Jordan joins a crowded backfield that includes RB Laurence Maroney, RB Sammy Morris, veteran third-down RB Kevin Faulk, rookie RB BenJarvus Green-Ellis, and FB Heath Evans and FB Kyle Eckel. Jordan's role, if he makes the team, would probably be similar to what he did with the Jets when he served as a change-of-pace back behind RB Curtis Martin.
