Chad Pennington Officially Named Miami Dolphins Starter

Dolphins coach Tony Sparano said Monday that Pennington will start the Sept. 7 season opener in Miami against his former team, the New York Jets.

Pennington was the face of the Jets the past eight seasons and arrived in camp this year competing with Kellen Clemens for the starting job. The Jets cut Pennington more than two weeks ago to clear salary cap space once they got Brett Favre from Green Bay.

Pennington ranks first in NFL history among quarterbacks with at least 1,500 attempts with a 65.6 completion percentage.

Pennington is the starter for week 1 but I have also just read that Henne is ready and may get his opportunity in week 2 or 3.

Nonsense. The kid's the real deal, he's going to be a star, but he's still a rooking and played like it in Week 3.

Chad Henne? I'd be interested in hearing more. Seriously.

I'd have to question that along with DearbornDolfan.

Yeah. I like Henne a lot.

The kid's got a monster arm, he made a throw in week two that just made my jaw drop, a twenty yard strike that I frankly doubt Marino in his prime could've done better. I thought the announcers were going to cream their pants and I wouldn't've blamed them a bit.

Most of the time he makes good decisions and makes them quickly. The only real fault in his game is that he tends to ignore the checkdown pass and will force something in if even the smallest window is open, although with the fucking howitzer he carries around defensive backs have a hard time reacting.

I've never seen him not make a throw on a route. More often than not he'll put the ball just where it needs to be and with just the right amount of velocity. The only glaring exception I've seen to this is the fade route, he really needs to throw it up where corners and safeties can't get to it. That one fault is what got him that interception against the Chiefs.
