Maurice Morris named starter for week 1

For all those who have been in denial all preseason

Seahawks coach Mike Holmgren confirmed that Maurice Morris will start in Week 1 over Julius Jones.

Analysis: Holmgren said the backfield rotation will start out with Morris going first, then he'll see how it plays out from there. Whichever back plays better against Buffalo this week could wind up starting in Week 2 against the 49ers.

Surprising! I really didn't think it would go that way. Figured J Jones would get the nod with them splitting some carries.

Morris has been with the team for a few years now. Given that a RBBC situation is expected here, I think it is much out of respect that they are giving the week 1 start to Morris.

Earning the job as starter will take place during the regular season.

Like in game three, when he started over JJ, picked up the blitzing backer, and they hit burleson for the 50 yard TD? Julius Jones just isn't that good. He lost a starting job behind a very good offensive line, now he hasn't a prayer to win the starting job behind an average one. If he couldn't make that gig work in Dallas, with that passing game, and that line, there really isn't much hope for an improvement, at this point, in his play.

great job in preseason. regular season will tell the story of how this works out.

Hasselbeck got regularly drilled by missed blocks when Morris was in the lineup. If he suddenly learned how to block over this offseason, then more power to him. My guess is that didn't happen.

I'm STILL considering dropping this guy for the Raiders defense this week - I see him as a committee back, and a mediocre one.

In the old days you would never start a Packer indoors. Now the rule is you don't start a Seahawk in the Eastern time zone

A suspect passing game is going to put a ton of pressure on the running game early in the season. Will be interesting to see how Seattle manages this.

whole running game struggled, but Jul Jones got 13 carries to only 6 for Mo Morris. Total yards in game one was Jul Jones 62, Morris 31.

Morris left injured, then again, who expected him to stay healthy as a starter

Jones had the biggest run, and Hasselbeck did stay cleaner when Julius Jones came in.

Running game had no chance today though, as the passing game was horrid and Hasselbeck looked really bad.
